The Toyota Vellfire comes to India as a CBU in a single fully-loaded trim and the price of Rs 79.50 lakhs (ex-showroom) is for an introductory period.
Toyota has finally launched the Vellfire luxury MPV in India and it comes in a single fully-loaded trim. The Toyota Vellfire has a starting price of Rs 79.50 lakh, ex-showroom pan India, for an introductory period. Toyota claims that the first three shipments of the Vellfire are already spoken for. Toyota has also said that customers in Hyderabad account for 20 percent of the total 180 bookings made. 60 units a month is Toyota’s allocation for India.
The Vellfire is an executive luxury MPV that will come to our shores via the CBU route under the Indian government’s relaxed homologation rule. In India, the Vellfire will come with Toyota’s ‘Executive Lounge’ package as standard. That includes two captain chairs for the middle row passengers. The seats themselves are ventilated and can be electrically reclined too. The middle seats also get adjustments for the legrest angle and length, which means that the middle-row seats can also be converted to a near-flat bed at a touch of a button.
This package also includes powered tailgate and sliding doors, two sunroofs, three-zone automatic climate control, mood lighting and individual tray tables for the India-spec Vellfire. There’s also a 13-inch rear entertainment screen that’s mounted on the roof, a 17-speaker JBL sound system, sunblinds for second and third rows and also a 360 degree camera.
Just for you knowledge, the Vellfire is based on the Alphard MPV which is on sale in some select markets. The Vellfire is essentially a more premium version of the same and it gets unique front and rear design and more features on the inside, along with added creature comforts. The MPV is on the larger side too – it is 4,935mm long, 1,850mm wide and 1,895mm high, but the highlight is the huge 3,000mm wheelbase.

The Toyota Vellfire is powered by a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain which couples a 117hp, 2.5-litre petrol engine with the two electric motors – 143hp front and 68hp rear – mounted on each axle. This also effectively gives the Vellfire all-wheel drive. The engine comes mated to a CVT gearbox. The Vellfire can also be driven in pure EV mode and only when you come on the throttle hard, the combustion engine kicks in to pull you through.

The Vellfire will have only one direct competitor when it is launched, the Mercedes-Benz V-class, prices for which are in the range of Rs 68.40 lakh to Rs 1.46 crore (ex-showroom, pan-India). With a price of Rs 79.50 lakhs, ex-showroom, the Toyota Vellfire sits right in the middle of the V-Class’s price range. Will the Vellfire be able to pull away some buyers from the three-pointed star? Only time will tell.
