Jeep has quite some products lined up for India including a seven-seater SUV and the Compass Facelift which are due next year. There’s even a sub-4m SUV in the pipeline for India.
Jeep has had been quite dormant for some time before they started rolling out more derivatives of the Compass. They started with the Compass Trailhawk and then followed it with the diesel-automatic powertrain in the standard Compass. Very recently, Jeep also launched the BS6 complaint versions of the Compass. That said, Jeep hasn’t had a completely new product for the Indian market for quite some time now. Well, that is about to change as Jeep will have a brand new seven-seater SUV and also the Compass facelift in their lineup by next year.
Currently, the Compass is the only vehicle being manufactured at Jeep’s facility in Ranjangaon. The Compass is produced for domestic purposes as well as exports to other right-hand drive markets. But we shall have more made-in-India products from Jeep very soon. First up, there’s going to be a seven-seater SUV that Jeep is calling the D-SUV. It will be based on the Compass platform and it will be introduced next year. It will be a monocoque-bodies seven-seater SUV that will actually share a lot of components with the Compass including some body panels, engine and gearbox options and even the interiors trims and dashboard. This new SUV will also be a capable off-roader and there will be no compromise on the ‘Jeep DNA’.
The Jeep D-SUV is meants to rival the likes of the Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace, the Skoda Kodiaq and the Honda CRV but it will also pull away some buyers from ladder-frame models like the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. Apart from this seven-seater SUV, Jeep will also be giving the Compass a major facelift, both inside and outside. In fact, the Compass facelift has even started road tests abroad.

This facelift for the Compass will not just be some minor cosmetic tweaks but there will be major sheet metal changes and the interiors will also be completely updated. The Jeep Compass facelift will even get a brand new dashboard and a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system could also make it to the Compass for India. We expect the updated Compass make its India debut by the end of this year, or early next year, followed by a market launch soon after.

We are still not done as Jeep even has a sub-4m compact SUV lined up for our marker as well. It is going to be Jeep’s most mass-market product and will be particularly important for a market like ours. It is internally being called the Jeep 526 but it is yet to see the light of the day. This new compact SUV will first be seen wearing a Fiat badge for the South American market – this model has already begun its initial phase of road tests. Then there will be a Jeep derivative of the same with a true Jeep stance and a proper 4WD system. The launch of the production-spec Jeep 526 SUV is still some time away and is only likely to happen at a later stage – the global unveil is expected in the latter half of 2021.
