The Kia QYI sub-compact SUV will debut in concept form at the 2020 Auto Expo and will see its market launch sometime during the festive season later this year.
Kia have been testing their sub-compact SUV in India for some time now and we have reported you with spy shots of the same over time. Now, Kia motors have teased its upcoming sub-compact SUV concept that will have its world premiere at Auto Expo 2020. It will Kia’s smallest offering in India and it will be launched in our market sometime during the festive season later this year.
This Kia sub-compact SUV is internally being called the QYI and it will be under four meters in length. The Kia QYI sub-compact SUV will join the highly crowded segment in India to take on the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Vitara Brezza petrol, Ford Ecosport, the recently updated Tata Nexon and the Mahindra XUV300. Even Renault has a SUV coming up in this space very soon.
The Kia QYI will be sharing its underpinnings with the Hyundai Venue, but as you can see from the teaser images, it boasts of a completely unique exterior design. So will be the case with the interiors as well. On the outside, the face gets Kia’s signature Tiger nose grille with honeycomb inserts. The bumpers have a muscular look with a wide air dam in the centre and vertical air intakes on either sides. There’s a standard headlight setup which are sleek looking, replete with DRLs. The QYI does not use a split headlight design like the Venue and gets unique vents below the headlamp that add to its sporty looks. There are matte-silver-finished fog lamp inserts as well.
When viewed in profile, you notice the flat bonnet line with chunky squarish wheel arches with body cladding running all around the car. The alloys boast of an attractive design and what seems like 16-inchers on this concept, could be a size bigger on the production-spec model. The concept’s window line rises just after of the rear door giving it a crossover-like look, while the roofline tapers down slightly and merges neatly with the rear glass.

At the rear, the QYI concept gets a floating D-pillar with a wide rear glasshouse. You will also notice that the SUV gets roof rails and small spoiler at the rear. The horizontal tail lamps look neat and are connected by a LED light strip. The chunky bumpers meanwhile get black and matte silver inserts to give it a robust SUV look.

While Kia hasn’t shared any interior images of the QYI sub-compact SUV, we expect to have a glimpse of it at the 2020 Auto Expo when its previewed in concept form. Expect the production-spec Kia QYi SUV to come with a 1.5-litre BS6 turbo-diesel, a 1.2 petrol, and a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, similar to the Venue’s line-up. Kia will have a few other concepts to show off at the 2020 Auto Expo as well. Stay tuned.
