Hyundai is reportedly planning to launch the new Sonata in India. It will make a comeback after it was discontinued back in 2015.
Hyundai launched the Sonata back in 2001 as a middle-class buyer’s Jaguar. Its resemble to the Jaguar and luxurious interiors definitely developed a rich taste for the middle-class. In its initial years, the Sonata was a very successful car for Hyundai in India.
Over the years, new facelifts and generations of the Hyundai Sonata were introduced in India. However, growing competition and better cars in a cheaper price segment led to dying sales of the sedan. After being in the market for nearly 14 years, Hyundai discontinued the Sonata for all.

Now, Hyundai is planning to launch the new Sonata in India again, after 6 years. We are expecting Hyundai to showcase it at the 2020 Auto Expo and then making a launch debut in India by the end of this year or early 2021.
Currently, in its eighth generation, the Sonata is inspired by the latest Hyundai design language. With its sleek and classy styling, it will come in the segment dominated by Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Volkswagen Passat (now discontinued) and Skoda Superb.
Globally, the Sonata is available in a range of engines, but in India, it might just get one or two. Expect it to come with a petrol engine ranging between 2-2.5 Litre. For better options, Hyundai is likely to offer a proper hybrid version of the Sonata as well. Knowing that Honda Accord and Toyota Camry are already hybrid models, Hyundai might just well do the same.

It will cost upwards of Rs 35 Lakhs, if and all it comes to India.
