Fisker debut the Ocean electric SUV recently and they have announced their plans of coming to India as well. It could be launched in India in the next five years.
Fisker Inc, famously known for manufacturing the Fisker Karma, has taken the wraps off the Fisker Ocean electric SUV at the ongoing CES 2020. This car was first teased more than a year ago by chairman and CEO, Henrik Fisker, and now it has debuted in production form at the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show. The Fisker Ocean electric SUV will go on sale in late 2021 in USA followed by a Europe and China launch in 2022. The big news is that Fisker is considering coming to India as well. Yes, Fisker Ocean will be launched in India, perhaps within the next five years and Fisker could even be assembling the electric SUV in India.
In an interview with CarandBike, Henrik Fisker, chairman and CEO has said, “We designed our Fisker Ocean EV to be extremely space efficient, and we can offer lower cost versions that would be very competitive in India, in the mid-market segment. Ultimately we may look at local assembly in India to lower cost further. We want to deliver the world’s most sustainable premium electric vehicle to Indian consumers through our App. By going directly to our customers we save cost that we can pass on to our customers.”
The Fisker Ocean electric SUV uses an 80 kWh battery and has claimed range of 480 kilometres. There is not much information about the power and torque figures from the powertrain but Fisker claims that the SUV can do the 0-100 kph sprint in just three seconds. That’s as fast as the best sportscars these days. It will also have the option of either two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.

The Fisker Ocean has a very attractive design. It has good proportions as an SUV and gets quirky design elements on the C-Pillar. The LED head lamps and tail lamps are very slim units and the SUV has a huge glass area. The SUV also gets chunky front and rear bumpers. The car also gets a rather cool ‘California mode’, which means pressing a single button will open all nine windows on the car, including the rear windscreen and the sunroof above.

On the inside, the Fisker Ocean has a very clean dashboard design. There’s a large touchscreen infotainment system that takes center stage on the dashboard and there’s a smaller screen behind the steering wheel which acts as the instrument cluster. There’s also a heads-up display which can perform multiple fancy functions apart from the usual like showing the lyrics of a playing inside the car. The Fisker Ocean has been priced at $37,499 internationally. That translates to about Rs. 27 lakhs in India but that’s only a rough estimate. There will be several taxes and rebates, after which the final price can be deduced. When the Fisker Ocean actually makes it to India, it could be one of the best EVs we can possibly see on our roads.
