The bookings for the ZS EV can be done at MG Motor’s website or at select dealerships across five cities – Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
MG Motors is all set to introduce their second offering in India. The MG ZS EV is an all-electric vehicle that will be launched in January 2020 and MG Motors have now commenced bookings for the electric SUV from December 21. The bookings can be done at MG Motor’s website or at select dealerships across five cities – Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. The booking amount has been pegged at Rs. 50,000.
MG Motors will initially be selling the ZS EV in only the aforementioned cities as India still does not have a proper charging infrastructure all throughout the country. Also, just like MG Motors did with the Hector, they plan to introduce the ZS EV at a “special introductory price for the first 1,000 customers”, according to the company. The Hector also saw a similar strategy where the SUV was launched at an introductory price of Rs 12.18-16.88 lakh (ex-showroom, India) was hiked by Rs 30,000-40,000 a few months after the initial launch.
Another similarity with the Hector is that MG Motors will offer MG Shield with the ZS EV as well. Its a special aftersales initiative which is called the eShield and as part of the package, ZS EV owners will be offered free of charge 5 year/unlimited km manufacturer warranty on the vehicle and an 8 year/1,50,000 km warranty on the lithium-ion battery. eShield also encompasses 24×7 roadside assistance (RSA) for a period of 5 years, applicable only for private buyers.
The ZS EV is powered by a synchronous motor that produces 141 bhp and 353 Nm of peak torque. The car gets a 44.5 kWh battery pack that promises a range of about 300 km on a single charge. The lithium-ion unit can be charged up to 80 per cent in 40 minutes with a 50 kW DC charger, or takes up to seven hours with a standard 7.4 kW AC charger.

The 50 kW DC fast charger will be available at MG dealerships across the country. MG has tied-up with Fortum India to install the charging network and to create a better infrastructure for EVs in India. Meanwhile, the standard 7.4 kW AC charger will be installed by MG Motors at your home or office. MG is even providing a portable charging cable with the ZS EV that can be plugged into any 15 ampere electrical socket. MG also plans to create a charging network across its dealerships in select satellite towns along key routes and also provide “charge-on-the-go” facilities to prospective owners.

With the bookings already having commenced, India’s second all electric car is not very far away. We expect the ZS EV to cost about Rs. 22 lakhs, (ex-showroom) when it goes on sale next month and it will directly compete against the Hyundai Kona.
