Skoda will discontinue the 1.8L TSI and 2.0L TDI engines from the current Superb and the 2020 Superb will get a new 2.0L TSI engine and will be petrol-only initially.
The 2020 Auto Expo is just a couple of months away and Skoda is supposed to have one of the most exciting stands at this years Auto Expo. Zac Hollis, Skoda’s Director of Sales and Marketing has confirmed that the 2020 Skoda Superb will come with a new 2.0-litre TSI BS6 compliant petrol engine and will be revealed at the Auto Expo 2020. He also revealed that the Superb facelift will be a petrol-only model initially.
The current-gen Superb is powered by two engines – there’s a 1.8L TSI and a 2.0L TDI engine. The 1.8L TSI engine will anyway be phased out globally and the 2.0L TDI engine would require significant upgrade to make it BS-6 compliant. These engines will thus not be upgraded to the new emission norms. Skoda plans to offload existing stock of these BS4 engines by launching a couple of limited edition versions of the Superb.
Now coming to the new 2.0L TSI engine in the 2020 Superb, it comes in two states of tune – 190bhp/320Nm and 272bhp/350Nm – in various international markets. Skoda will most likely offer the former engine tune in India. Skoda is also expected to offer a 7-speed DSG gearbox with this engine. There wouldn’t be any diesel engine in the ne Superb (atleast in 2020) as Skoda Auto Volkswagen India is planning to ditch diesel engines for the short term.
As for the new 2020 Superb, it gets new full LED Matrix headlamps, the first for any Skoda car. The headlamp cluster itself is sleeker than before and has new detailing as well. The air dam on the bumper now stretches across the entire width of the car and also houses the newly designed LED fog lamps. Also, the signature butterfly grille gets a wider chrome band around it. At the rear, the Skoda logo has been substituted with the SKODA lettering written in bold.
