As per the latest sales data from the month gone by, a resounding 8 out of the top 10 highest-selling cars hail from the Maruti Suzuki brand. The Japanese carmaker is the biggest four-wheeler manufacturer in India since its inception. It has captured the market since time immemorial. Today, it enjoys an unbelievable over 40% market share. This table represents an impressive fact. As many as 8 cars on this list come from Maruti Suzuki. That is simply outrageous. The two non-Maruti cars that were able to feature on this list are the Tata Punch and the Hyundai Creta. Punch is a micro SUV which has taken the market by storm. People love the idea of owning a car with an SUV silhouette at attractive prices. On top of that, it features a 5-star safety rating and imposing exterior styling. On the other hand, the Creta continues to be the highest-selling SUV in the country. It is the go-to choice for a whole bunch of people in the mid-size SUV segment.

Overall Sales Statistics

In total, there were 3,60,230 cars sold in India in August 2023, compared to 3,27,936 cars sold in the same month last year. This marks a healthy 9.8% year-on-year growth. In fact, the sales are even higher than the previous month (July 2023) where 3,51,908 cars were sold. Hence, this shows a strong growth in the Indian auto sector. That is a welcome scenario after the horrible last couple of years. Firstly, the sector collapsed due to lockdowns and the pandemic. Thereafter, the supply chain issues and semiconductor chip shortage caused a slowdown in production. Finally, the industry is back on track and is set for the upcoming festive season.
