Despite the challenges with its excessive complaints regarding servicing, the EV startup was able to post impressive sales.
The Bengaluru-based EV startup was able to sell over 50,000 Ola scooters during this festive season. We know that September to November is generally considered the festive season in India. During this time frame, many traditional festivals are stacked one after the other, making an auspicious time to purchase new products. While that consists of a wide range of things, we like to concern ourselves with automobiles. Let us take a look at the details of this case.
50,000 Ola Scooters Sold This Diwali
The EV giant announced this news via its official X handle with the caption, “50,000 new members joined us this festive season! Thank you for being a part of the electric revolution โ together, weโre changing the way India travels.” Digging a bit deeper, it was also found that Ola registered 41,605 units of its electric scooters as per Vahan data in October 2024. Interestingly, the 50,000 sales mark is a whopping 74% increase on a year-on-year basis. With this, Ola boasts a healthy 30% market share among the two-wheeler EV manufacturers in the country.
While the sales are great, the company has been receiving a lot of flak for its lack of servicing staff creating long waiting times for Ola scooter owners to get their EVs serviced and repaired. To address that, the company has added 50 service centres across the nation and hired over 500 technicians. This should ensure a faster service process and would help to clear the backlogs of customers waiting to get their electric scooters repaired or serviced. Furthermore, Ola wants to double its service network to 1,000 touchpoints by December 2024.
My View
Ola Electric continues to be the market leader in electric two-wheeler space in India. Going forward, it will be interesting to see how well its first electric motorcycle does. Remember, it is available in three variants – Roadster X, Roadster and Roadster Pro with prices starting at Rs 74,999 for the base trim and Rs 1,99,999, ex-showroom for the top variant. Clearly, the company is ambitious and wants to leverage its expertise and resources towards becoming a prominent player in the sustainable mobility space.
