Toyota Taisor
For the uninitiated, the Toyota Taisor is the rebadged iteration of the Maruti Fronx. We know that Maruti and Toyota have been in an alliance for a few years now. As a result, they sell each other’s products with their badges. Taisor will be the next product in this lineup. There won’t be any significant difference in terms of design, exterior, interior, features or powertrains in comparison to the Fronx. It presents a selection between two engine options – a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. The former generates 90 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque, while the latter offers a more robust performance with 100 PS of power and 147.6 Nm of torque.
The less potent engine is offered with 5-speed manual and AMT transmission choices. Furthermore, there’s a CNG variant providing a peak output of 76 hp and 99 Nm of torque. As for the turbo-petrol variant, both 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission options are available. The Fronx is priced between Rs 7.51 lakh and Rs 13.04 lakh, ex-showroom. Therefore, it’s expected that even the Taisor will be priced in this range.

Tata Altroz Racer
Then there is the Tata Altroz Racer on this list of the top 5 upcoming car launches in April. It is the performance guise of the regular Altroz. Tata showcased it back at the Auto Expo 2023. It will rival the Hyundai i20 N Line in our market. The Altroz Racer will come with a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine which generates an impressive 120 PS and 170 Nm of peak power and torque. This engine could pair well with either a 5-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox. Moreover, it will bear mechanical alterations in order to ensure that the driving enthusiasts feel the difference and that sense of excitement from behind the steering wheel.

Mahindra XUV300 Facelift
The next vehicle on this list is the Mahindra XUV300 facelift. It is a prominent compact SUV which competes with the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Brezza, Kia Sonet and Tata Nexon in our market. We foresee no changes to the engine and gearbox options. It’s likely that the vehicle will retain the 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine, available in two variants – one delivering 110 hp and 200 Nm, and another producing 130 hp and 230 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. Additionally, there’s a 1.5-litre diesel engine providing 115 hp and 300 Nm. Both engines will offer the choice of either a 6-speed manual transmission or an AMT gearbox. Whether Mahindra will replace the AMT with a torque converter automatic transmission remains uncertain. Presently, the XUV300 is priced between Rs 7.99 lakh and Rs 14.76 lakh, ex-showroom. It’s anticipated that the facelift will come at a slightly higher price point than these figures.

Skoda Superb
Skoda is preparing to reintroduce the previous-generation Superb sedan to the Indian market, marking its comeback following its discontinuation due to BS6.2 implementation. The company’s strategy involves relaunching it with an improved 190 hp, 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine, paired with an exclusive 7-speed DSG gearbox. Significant changes include transitioning the Superb from local assembly to importation as a completely built-up unit (CBU). The revival will be exclusive to the top-spec L&K trim, featuring notable upgrades such as ADAS with lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, an updated infotainment system, adaptive chassis control technology, an active tyre pressure monitoring system, and a comprehensive nine-airbag setup. While awaiting official confirmation, there is optimistic anticipation for the eventual introduction of the new-generation Superb in the Indian market.

Maruti Swift
Finally, we might also witness the facelift avatar of the iconic Maruti Swift. It has been spotted testing on our roads on multiple occasions. In fact, it recently launched in the UK. Hence, India could be the next destination. This Swift comes equipped with a 1.2-litre Z12E 3-cylinder mild hybrid engine, delivering a respectable output of 81 hp and 113 Nm of peak power and torque. Drivers have the option of choosing between a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic transmission. The fuel efficiency stands at approximately 5 litres per 100 km. During the test drive, the host observes that the firm suspension may result in a slightly jarring ride, but the acceleration is smooth and progressive. Despite its 3-cylinder configuration, the cabin remains relatively quiet. It will be interesting to see what the Indian model comes with.
