Maruti Suzuki is about to launch its 7-seater Engage MPV/SUV in our market and we list out why it might be a good alternative to the Toyota Innova Hycross on which it will be based.
Here are the top 5 reasons why the upcoming Maruti Engage might be worth waiting for in comparison to the existing Toyota Innova Hycross. There are various reports online suggesting that while the Engage might borrow a lot of elements from the Innova Hycross, these won’t simply be the badge-engineered versions of each other as was the case with Maruti Suzuki and Toyota products of the past. We saw this with the Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder as well. As a result, the buyers have a choice to go for two seemingly different options.

1. Wider Sales & Service Network
First and foremost, the density of the touchpoints by Maruti Suzuki in India is beyond any comparison. In fact, that is the reason why a lot of first-time car buyers from the remote areas of the country opt for Maruti products. Its sales and service support cover the length and breadth of the country.
2. NEXA Premium Retail Experience
Additionally, the Engage will sold via Maruti’s premium NEXA dealerships. Maruti has two dealership outlets – Arena and NEXA. The former is for all the regular and established models while the latter is for the premium and newer models in the portfolio.
3. Cheaper Maintenance
Yet another strong factor in favour of Maruti products over the years has been its inexpensive maintenance costs. Due to heavy localisation, the spare parts of Maruti products are cheaper compared to the other carmakers.
4. No Taxi Image
Interestingly, Toyota Innova is a name that has been the face of commercial taxi fleets in India since its inception. While that might not be a bad thing from the business perspective since it is the most successful product in that segment, it could be a bit of a problem for private buyers. Maruti Engage will not carry that burden in its nameplate.

5. Possibly Higher Fuel Efficiency
While the Toyota counterpart already has a decent mileage, particularly in the strong hybrid variant, we can expect Maruti to still figure a way out to get that mileage figure slightly up. But we will have to wait for the launch for the official numbers.
