Toyota Hilux
The first vehicle on this list is the Toyota Hilux. It is one of the most capable pickup trucks in the country. As per the latest news reports, Punjab Police inducted 116 Toyota Hilux pickup trucks into its fleet. Bhagwant Mann, Punjab Chief Minister, launched the Sadak Surakhya Force (SSF) last Saturday at the Punjab Armed Police (PAP) headquarters in Jalandhar. To cover the 5,500 km National Highway and State Highway network, there are a total of 129 new vehicles in the department. These have the latest technology which enables a direct link to the nearest trauma centres to help accident victims.
Featuring a 2.7-litre diesel engine, akin to the Fortuner, the vehicle provides an impressive 201 hp and 420 Nm of torque (or 500 Nm with automatic transmission) for optimal power and torque. Buyers can choose between a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Setting itself apart from the Fortuner, all Hilux models come equipped with 4-wheel drive, and notably, they do not offer a petrol engine option. The Hilux enters the market with a starting price of Rs 30.40 lakh, with the price range extending up to Rs 37.90 lakh, ex-showroom.

Hyundai Creta
The pre-facelift model of the Hyundai Creta is a part of many Police forces across India. It is the highest-selling mid-size SUV in the country. Its mad popularity is not just limited to the passenger vehicle segment. Even the Police forces use it as a patrol vehicle. As per the latest reports, the Chennai Police Department has the Hyundai Creta as a part of its fleet. In fact, we also witnessed this Creta as a part of Ladakh Police for its tourist wing. Therefore, there are many occasions of the Creta as the Police car.
The pre-facelift Hyundai Creta was available in three engine variants – 1.5-litre turbo-diesel, 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol, and 1.4-litre turbo-petrol. The diesel engine option provides two transmission choices – a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic, whereas the 1.5-litre petrol motor is offered with a 6-speed manual and a CVT. The turbocharged petrol motor is paired with a 7-speed DCT. The naturally aspirated petrol engine delivers a maximum power of 115 PS and a peak torque of 144 Nm, while the diesel motor offers 115 PS and 250 Nm. The most potent engine is the 1.4-litre turbo petrol unit, benefiting from direct injection and delivering a maximum power of 140 PS and a peak torque of 242 Nm.

Tata Nexon EV
The Indian Police forces are also using electric cars in their fleet. A few months ago, we reported the Kolkata Police inducting 226 Tata Nexon EVs into its lineup. These are also the pre-facelift models. The Nexon EV was offered in two trim levels – Prime and Max. The Prime variant features a 30.2 kWh lithium-ion battery, providing a range of 312 km. It is equipped with a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor, generating 127 hp and 245 Nm of peak power and torque. On the other hand, the Nexon EV Max is equipped with a larger 40.5 kWh lithium-ion battery, powering the same motor to produce 141 hp and 250 Nm of peak power. The increased battery capacity enables a longer range of 453 km on a single charge and achieves a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 9 seconds.

Mahindra Bolero Neo
The next vehicle on this list of top cars of Indian Police forces is the Mahindra Bolero Neo. It is the official Police car for the city of Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The SUV is in red colour, highlighting its road presence. The Bolero Neo is equipped with a 1.5-litre mHawk diesel engine, delivering 100 hp and 260 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. This engine is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The SUV, built on a ladder frame, features a rear-wheel-drive system and multi-terrain technology. An optional N10 (O) variant with a Manual Lock Differential will be introduced at a later stage. The Bolero Neo is priced starting from Rs 9.64 lakh for the N4 trim and extends up to Rs 12.15 lakh, ex-showroom, for the N10 trim.

Mahindra XUV700
Finally, we have the Mahindra XUV700 on this list as well. Recently, the Maharashtra Police included 15 Mahindra XUV700 SUVs in its fleet. It is the flagship model from the Indian auto giant. It comes with tons of active and passive safety features, the latest technological amenities and plenty of comfort functionalities. The XUV700 comes with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces a maximum power of 200 PS and a peak torque of 380 Nm. On the other hand, the diesel engine is available in multiple states of tune. The lower-tier versions deliver 155 PS and 360 Nm, while the higher-tier models provide 185 PS and 420 Nm of peak power and torque (450 Nm in the automatic variant).
