The new 5-dr Suzuki Jimny concept will be revealed at the Tokyo Auto Salon next month. It builds on the stock model.
A production-spec 5-dr Suzuki Jimny is one of the most anticipated cars in the country. It is expected to be one of five new Maruti SUVs set to arrive over the next three years. While the official vehicle is still some time away, a new hardcore 5-door Jimny concept has emerged. The students from the Nihon Automotive Technology School (NATS) in Japan are readying a concept of the upcoming SUV. It features a basic body design that might be similar to the final model by the carmaker itself. The finished project will be showcased at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January 2022. The NATS Suzuki Jimny 5-door concept features a customised chassis that is said to increase the vehicle’s length by 400mm. While the SUV’s bodyshell remain stock, it is paired with a custom fabricated rear doors and roof panelling. A modified body is welded on top of the unit. The stock rear window is re-fabricated into smaller quarter windows. The concept SUV features custom moulded front bumper and wider fender extensions. The stock wheels and suspension are replaced with a more heavy-duty off-road centric set-up. Additionally, the stock petrol engine comes with an aftermarket turbocharger kit to boost performance.

In India, the 5-door Jimny is expected to remain under the 4m mark (at around 3.8m) in length. It will be powered by the company’s 1.5-litre petrol engine (used in models like Ciaz, Ertiga, and Vitara Brezza). Alongside a larger 5-door model, Maruti might also bring a smaller 3-door model alongside it. The company has already announced that it will bring the Suzuki Jimny for the Indian market. Maruti is all set to launch a number of new and updated models in India. This includes the upgraded Baleno, Vitara Brezza, Ertiga, XL6, and an all-new Alto.
