A test mule of the upcoming SUV has been seen undergoing road tests with production parts for the umpteenth time
Mahindra & Mahindra is all set to launch the 5-door version of the Thar in the Indian market. Our sources reveal that the new SUV’s commercial launch will occur in August this year and could coincide with Independence Day. It is expected to come with a similar design and powertrains as the 3-door version. However, it gets a more practical design for an SUV, thanks to an extra third row. Several test units of the upcoming car have been spotted on Indian roads. As you can see in the new spy shots, the 5-Door Thar is almost production ready.

Design Language Retained
Compared to the 3-door version, the Mahindra Thar 5-Door has a longer wheelbase to accommodate the extra seats. It also gets two extra doors, one on each side. Other elements look the same. The new model will retain the round headlamps, rectangular taillights, and a boot-mounted spare wheel. The boot lid will is expected to come with the same split-open hatch. There might be some change in the front grille.

Mahindra Thar 5-Door vs 3-Door Specs
The upcoming car will be powered by a 2.0-liter turbo-petrol/ 2.2-liter turbo-diesel engine. For transmission, it will get 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic options. On the inside, the Mahindra Thar 5-Door will get the same 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dashboard, steering wheel, and instrument console. However, the company might update the upholstery options. The Mahindra Thar 5-Door is expected to be priced at Rs 12-13 lakh. It is likely to be launched on August 15, 2023.

Meanwhile, the Mahindra Thar 3-door comes at Rs 10.54 lakh – Rs 16.78 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). It offers a mileage of around 15.2 km/l with the diesel variant and around 9 km/h in petrol guise. The 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine makes 150 hp of peak power and 320 Nm of torque. While the 2.2-liter diesel engine offers 130 hp and 320 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. It comes with an automatic transmission with a dedicated 4×4 unit.
