The upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door SUV will get a sunroof. This has been established through some of the spy media we have seen so far. The test mules of the bigger Thar have been spotted countless times in the last few months. Following the Jimny’s debut, the 5-door Thar is now the most awaited product in the country. The Thar is renowned for its association with adventure off-roading, contributing significantly to the growing popularity of this niche market. Consequently, the 5-door Thar is poised to attract more customers, given its practicality and capabilities. Let’s delve into the specifics of this recent sighting.

Mahindra Thar 5-Door with Sunroof
This post comes from carwaleindia on Instagram. The video captures the 5-door Mahindra Thar as a test mule on the road. It is during the nighttime. Someone driving in the adjacent lane made this video. However, it is quite intriguing to see that the new Thar looks to have a sunroof. Now, that is not the case with the existing model. It either gets a hard top or a soft top which people could open completely. But a dedicated sunroof almost never appears on such off-roading SUVs. Since this will be the longer version of the Thar, Mahindra might just get enough space to squeeze in a sunroof.

Specs
While the Indian SUV manufacturer has yet to make any official announcements, it’s reasonable to expect that the 5-door version will likely share similar powertrain options with the 3-door model. This could include a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine and a 2.0-litre mStallion turbo petrol engine featuring direct injection technology. However, given the larger and heavier nature of the 5-door variant, adjustments to these engines might be necessary to accommodate the size difference. Moreover, the 5-door version will utilize the same ladder-frame chassis as the Scorpio N, providing both manual and automatic transmission choices, along with a low-range transfer case for enhanced 4×4 capabilities.

Author’s Note
The primary drawback of the current 3-door Thar lies in its limited cabin space, impacting practicality. The extended wheelbase of the upcoming 5-door variant addresses this concern, making the Thar more accessible to larger families. This configuration particularly benefits the rear legroom and the boot compartment. It will be intriguing to gauge customer response to the enhanced Thar. The 5-door Jimny has already seen rapid success. Now, we anticipate whether the 5-door Mahindra Thar can replicate such triumph in the market.
