More Upmarket Than 3-door Mahindra Thar
Mahindra Thar 5-door is set to feature a bigger touchscreen infotainment system and a new 3-spoke steering wheel. The latest images even highlight the instrument cluster, showcasing the digital speedometer and a multi-information display situated on the right-hand side. Meanwhile, an earlier image reveals a significantly large touchscreen infotainment housing. This clearly implies a screen size exceeding the 7-inch unit found in the standard Thar. This modification aligns with the 5-door Thar’s focus on catering to families and practicality. The new infotainment will likely come from the Scorpio N. Also, the cabin gets a dual-tone color theme for a more upmarket look.
Specs
While the Indian SUV manufacturer has not issued any official statements, it’s logical to anticipate that the 5-door iteration will likely boast comparable powertrain choices to the Scorpio N. This could potentially include a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine and a 2.0-litre mStallion turbo petrol engine featuring direct injection technology. Transmission choices will include both manual and automatic transmission units. Also, the 5-door version will share the same ladder-frame chassis as the Scorpio N. Furthermore, it will offer a low-range transfer case to augment its 4×4 capabilities.

Author’s Note
The primary limitation of the 3-door Mahindra Thar lies in its limited cabin space. This impacts its overall practicality. The upcoming 5-door version tackles this concern by incorporating an elongated wheelbase, thereby improving its appeal for larger families and overall accessibility. This design enhancement, particularly beneficial for rear legroom and the boot, seeks to address the spatial constraints of the 3-door model. It remains intriguing to witness the consumer reactions to the bigger Thar.
