5 Advantages Mahindra XUV 3XO Will Offer Over Tata Nexon
Panoramic Sunroof
The most talked-about aspect of the teaser of the Mahindra XUV 3XO has to be its massive panoramic sunroof. Now, we know that there is no compact SUV in the market which offers a panoramic sunroof. Most of them have a regular electric sunroof. That could be a game-changer for the SUVs in this category going forward. India is famously a sunroof-obsessed market. People have an extra affinity toward this feature. Hence, carmakers have started offering it even at lower trims. But Mahindra is taking things one step higher by offering a larger panoramic sunroof in the upcoming SUV. For comparison, the Nexon gets a standard sunroof.
Direct Injection Turbo Petrol Engine
In recent times, we have been constantly witnessing down-sized turbo petrol engines. The stricter-becoming emission norms demand engines to be efficient and low pollution-emitting. Hence, companies are reducing the number of cylinders in the engine and installing a turbocharger. In this manner, the performance of a vehicle is enhanced as the exhaust gases are utilized to spool the turbo. Once the turbo spools up, it rotates the compressor along which results in sucking in more air into the engine. With more air, more fuel is directly injected into the cylinder, increasing the power output. I see this trend getting more and more popular in the last few years in India.

More Powerful Engine
In this section, I am discussing the 1.2-litre direct injection mStallion turbo petrol engine. It is the new engine developed by Mahindra. It is available alongside the regular 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine in the XUV300. However, the direct injection technology makes it the most powerful SUV in its class. It generates a whopping 130 hp and 230 Nm of peak power and torque. For reference, the 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine of the Nexon makes 120 hp and 170 Nm of peak power and torque. Hence, the XUV 3XO, likely to retain this engine from the existing XUV300, will be significantly more powerful.
More Powerful Diesel Engine
Not only does the Mahindra XUV 3XO have an advantage over the Tata Nexon in the petrol version, but also in the diesel mill. The 1.5-litre turbo diesel mill found in the Nexon generates a decent 113 PS and 260 Nm of peak power and torque. However, the one on the XUV is good for slightly better 117 PS but considerably higher 300 Nm of peak power and torque. That is a huge difference among the vehicles of similar segments. The driving enthusiasts would definitely prefer the torquier option of the two.
Remote-controlled Dual-zone Climate Control
Mahindra is leaving no stone unturned when it comes to offering segment-first amenities to enhance the comfort and convenience of the passengers. While there are a myriad of such features, I am talking here about remote-controlled dual-zone climate control. With connected car tech apps, almost all major carmakers offer the function of remote-controlled air conditioning. However, what sets the XUV 3XO apart from the rest is the fact that it is the only one with a dual-zone setup. This allows different temperature and fan settings for the front passengers. That could be extremely useful in those cases where the driver and co-driver want different temperatures. I have only seen this feature in cars in a couple of segments above.

Author’s Note
Going by the teasers, it is evident that Mahindra wants to offer a product with all the modern tech, convenience, connectivity and safety functions. That is necessary to compete in this brutal category which has some prominent names like the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon and Kia Sonet. To stand apart from the crowd, Mahindra will need to put its best foot forward. With aspects like top-notch features and powerful engine options, the XUV 3XO is bound to attract new customers who give preference to the creature comforts.
However, I must also mention that the only real reason which made the XUV300 slightly less practical in comparison to its rivals was its small boot space. This can be a pertinent issue when you are travelling with family on long journeys. While we are not sure if that aspect will be rectified in the upcoming facelift or not, it is a key region where Mahindra could improve.
