In this post, I am listing out 4 Tata concepts which never made it to the production line. Carmakers often display their concept designs to attract new customers and demonstrate their engineering and design prowess. That is why automakers often overdo their exterior, which hardly makes it to production. But lately, car companies are creating such concepts which play a huge part in shaping the final product. The design engineering has become so efficient that they are able to generate close-to-production cars. For now, let us take a look at the details of these concept cars from Tata which never made it to our roads.
4 Tata Concepts That Were Never Launched
Tata E-Vision
Tata E-Vision was a concept sedan which was unveiled at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. It was based on Tata’s new platform (at the time), OMEGA. It featured a sleek design which reminded us of some premium vehicles. At the front, it had a sleek appearance with LED headlamps connected via an LED DRL belt which ran the width of the slim grille. The bumper of the E-Vision was quite sporty which was accentuated by a rugged splitter. On the sides, the concept got colossal 22-inch diamond-cut dual-tone alloy wheels. On the sides, it had flush-fitting door handles, and silver accents on the body panels and over the window frame.
On the inside, the E-Vision offered an incredibly luxurious cabin and materials. The dashboard contained wooden inlays along with a beige colour theme to offer a premium appearance. There was a pop-out touchscreen infotainment display in the centre console and a full-width screen on the dashboard close to the windshield. As the name suggests, E-Vision was supposed to be an electric car. However, no details about the powertrain were officially announced by Tata Motors. Still, there were many rumours floating around on the internet. Unfortunately, we never saw it in the flesh.
Tata Pixel
Interestingly, Tata Pixel was showcased by the Indian auto giant back in 2011 at the 81st International Motor Show in Geneva. It was primarily designed for the European market. Looking at it, you would immediately connect it to the Nano. The compact concept car had a rear engine and a seating capacity of 4. Boasting miniature dimensions, its true application was supposed to be as a city car. To drive that point home, it had a turning radius of a mere 2.6 m. That is extremely crucial in urban conditions where the vehicle can be manoeuvred around easily. The tiny car even featured a start/stop hybrid and regenerative braking system. The fuel-efficient diesel engine offered an astounding mileage of 1 litre per 100 km. But it could never make it to the production line.
Tata Safari Mountain Rescue
The next vehicle on this list of concept cars from Tata Motors which were never launched is the Tata Safari Mountain Rescue. It was unveiled back in 2013 at the Geneva Motor Show. At the time, the Safari Storme was all the rage. Hence, the Mountain Rescue was based on it. Designed for the European market, it was aimed at carrying out rescue operations in mountains like the Alps. Even in India, it could’ve been a great product for people living in the Himalayas. The terrain and environment are much more demanding and challenging. As a result, it came with all the necessary tools which might be needed when someone is stranded in an isolated location. These include things like:
- Winch
- Snorkel for Fresh Air Intake Under Water
- New Front Bumper
- Tow Hook for Trailer Attachment
- New Off-road Tyres
- Snow Chains for Traction in Winters
- Cargo Box on the Roof
Tata Prima
Finally, Tata Prima was also one of those concepts which was never launched in the market. Interestingly, it was designed by Pininfarina. Back in 2009, it was considered a luxury sedan by the Indian auto giant. It was first unveiled at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show. Despite carrying the luxury sedan tag, its inspiration from the Tata Indigo was evident. However, to distinguish it apart, the Indian auto giant offered curves on the body of the Prima. As a result, it had a coupe silhouette with a sloping roofline toward the rear, a long wheelbase of over 2.7 m, black B pillars, sleek headlamps, decent-sized front grille, fog lamps, wraparound taillamps, chrome frame around the window and more. All in all, it offered a luxurious cabin and exterior to set it apart from the regular budget cars Tata was selling at the time.
Our View
I believe our readers will find this list of concept cars from Tata Motors quite intriguing. You might have not heard about many of these models. It is often the case with established carmakers that they keep creating concepts to gauge the response of the public by demonstrating them at Motor Shows. After knowing which concepts the potential customers gravitate towards the most, the companies decide to go ahead with those models to make production versions. That is how a car comes to the showrooms. While all these concepts never made it to production, most cars sold by Tata today were the ones which made it through.
