This video captures an off-road showdown with 3-door and 5-door Suzuki Jimny. Jimny is made in India and now available in a 5-door version. It has recently hit the South African market. It has a rich history of over 50 years as a renowned off-road SUV, famous for its lightweight build and traditional 3-door design. It’s cherished globally and is a popular choice among buyers looking for an affordable off-road vehicle. However, in India, we receive the 5-door model instead. This decision is simple – Indian customers value practicality. That’s why Maruti Suzuki introduced the 5-door version of the Jimny for the first time. For now, let us take a look at how well the 3-door and 5-door versions perform on demanding terrains in South Africa.

Maruti Jimny 3-Door vs 5-Door Off-Road Challenge
This video comes from The Motoring Show on YouTube. It captures the team with both SUVs. They are on a dedicated natural off-roading track. There are uneven surfaces, rocks, boulders, steep slopes and descents. This allows the team to test the capabilities of the Jimny thoroughly. Note that they have the manual 3-door and automatic 5-door. For the most part, the lightweight off-roaders climb onto just about any obstacle without any fuss. There is decent ground clearance to ensure that the underbelly doesn’t scrape the surface.

Apart from that, there was not much difference between the real-life performance of the short and long wheelbase versions. Interestingly, in order to prevent stalling, one needs to carry a bit of momentum up the steep slope in the manual version. In comparison, you could simply crawl the surface in the automatic. That is the only considerable difference between the performance of the two avatars of the Jimny. All in all, both SUVs performed exceedingly well despite the challenging terrains over this long and hardcore off-roading track.

Author’s Note
We appreciate the vloggers who document their experiences and teach off-roading to the masses. But we must ensure that we don’t simply imitate them. Off-roading SUVs are built to explore remote areas, but that doesn’t mean they should be mistreated. Intentionally subjecting these vehicles to tough situations increases the risk of accidents. We often witness SUVs taking hard hits on the terrain, which can cause significant damage to vital parts. We strongly discourage taking personal vehicles into such hazardous conditions.
