There has been a lot of buzz around the next-gen Toyota Fortuner, which we might see on our roads in the coming months.
The 2024 Toyota Fortuner might be some time away from the official debut, but there have been plenty of alleged design leaks on the internet. The Fortuner has emerged as the most successful seven-seat off-roader in the country. While it has enjoyed popularity since its introduction, the absence of the formidable Ford Endeavour has left potential buyers without any other notable competitor to consider. This makes the Fortuner the obvious choice of many. Consequently, it’s of great importance for Toyota to work on fresher iterations to keep the brand Fortuner relevant in the ever-evolving market. Hence, a thoroughly updated avatar of the 7-seat off-roader is very much on the anvil.

2024 Toyota Fortuner Leaked Before Debut?
This purportedly leaked image could be a glimpse at the future SUV. Going by the details in this image, it looks more like a evolutionary design rather than a revolutionary design. The side profile seems somewhat similar to the existing model but there are a few changes evident in this photo to the front and the rear sections. This includes a revamped LED headlamp cluster and a more rounded tail lamp unit. Additionally, the front grille looks massive and the bumper has been redesigned to ooze an imposing road presence. All the other aspects of the side profile resemble the current model, which is something we even pointed out in the spy images.

Specs
The current-gen Toyota Fortuner offers two engine options, consisting of a 2.7-litre petrol engine and a 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine. These engines deliver impressive peak power and torque outputs of 164 hp and 245 Nm for the petrol engine, and 201 hp and 420 Nm (500 Nm with automatic transmission) for the turbo-diesel engine. The transmission can be either a 6-speed manual or automatic, and in the diesel variants, power is distributed to all four wheels. To ensure seamless navigation across diverse terrains, the SUV incorporates a dedicated 4×4 system. The ex-showroom prices for the Fortuner range from Rs 32.99 lakh to Rs 50.74 lakh.
Reportedly, the HiLux and Fortuner will be available with a new engine with a mild-hybrid system. While not a full hybrid as seen on the likes of Innova Hycross and Urban Cruiser Hyryder, the mild-hybrid version will still result in some fuel savings. It should even provide an extra punch to the performance. More details are unavailable as of now.

What We Think
Toyota Fortuner is the most successful 7-seat off-roading SUV in the country for a while now. Ever since the departure of its arch-rival, Ford Endeavour, people are left with no other worthy option than to go for the Fortuner. Resultantly, the Japanese carmaker has introduced many new variants to cater to a wider range of audience. However, a comprehensive update to the Fortuner is long overdue. Hence, it won’t be a surprise if we get to witness a facelift model of the mighty Fortuner in our markets soon. Also, there are few reports floating around suggesting that the next generation Toyota Fortuner and Hilux will come with a hybrid powertrain. Whether it is true or not, remains to be seen.
