This is the first real update on the mid-size sedan from the Japanese car marque for a long time
The 2024 Suzuki Ciaz RS has been revealed for some global markets. Ciaz has been around in the Indian market since 2014. Having been around for a decade, the model is still on sale. However, we have yet to receive a comprehensive update. In fact, there were many speculations regarding the discontinuation of the vehicle altogether. But at a recent Suzuki global event, the Ciaz RS version was on display. RS, for the uninitiated, is the performance division of Suzuki which makes powerful versions of regular mass market cars. The Baleno RS that was on sale in India a few years ago is a prime example of that. For now, let us take a look at the details of this updated Ciaz.
2024 Suzuki Ciaz RS 1.2 Revealed
The video stems from Power Racer on YouTube. The vlogger is at the Suzuki global event. Hence, we see many familiar, and some futuristic products. One of the old horses that caught the host’s eye is the Ciaz. On the back, you get the RS badge which informs that this is a more powerful version of the sedan. On the exterior, there are barely any noticeable changes. The front profile is similar to the one sold in India save for a few blacked-out elements to accentuate its sportiness. At the rear, we get a prominent bootlid-mounted spoiler indicating its performance traits. Apart from that, it remains aesthetically the same.
On the inside, again, one can’t pinpoint extreme alterations. One thing to notice is the touchscreen infotainment display and the HVAC controls. Apart from that, the instrument cluster, door panels, steering wheel, upholstery, centre compartment, etc., are all similar to the Indian-spec model. In fact, to highlight its sporty nature, the interior comes with an all-black theme. The space at the rear is aplenty.
2024 Suzuki Ciaz RS 1.2 – Specs
The main point of differentiation has to be what lies under the hood. Remember that many international markets get the Ciaz with a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder petrol mill. This is an iteration of the K-Series engine available on the current Dzire. However, in India, we have the larger and more powerful 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. This RS version draws power from a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine which generates a decent 91 hp of peak power. This engine is mated to either a CVT automatic gearbox for a smooth ride. Interestingly, the Indian-spec avatar makes 102 hp.

My View
We have been waiting for an updated Ciaz in India for a long time now. However, as the competition in the segment has gone up tremendously, the largest car marque in the country has lost focus on the Ciaz. It is good to see that it is working on it for the international markets. However, we would love to see the Ciaz in an updated avatar for India as well. I don’t think it will bring this RS trim to our market because the regular model with a larger engine already makes more power. Hence, it makes no sense to get a low-powered variant. In any case, we shall keep an eye out for further developments in this regard.
