Skoda Kodiaq is already on sale in the Indian market but this latest iteration as a CBU will shoot up the price significantly once it make it to our shores.
The new-gen 2024 Skoda Kodiaq premium mid-size SUV has been spied testing in India in all its glory. Note that Kodiaq is the flagship SUV from the Czech carmaker in our market. In fact, it belongs to a rather niche category which has limited direct rivals. Hence, it becomes slightly difficult to gauge its demand and popularity. Still, the latest generation model has already been launched in international markets late last year. Hence, Skoda wants to give Indian buyers a taste of its global standards. The launch is expected by the festive season this year. Let us delve deep into the specifics of this post.
2024 Skoda Kodiaq Spotted in India
The details of this post stem from _2ndhandluxury and caromcar on Instagram. The visuals showcase the tail end of the large SUV. What I find fascinating is that the SUV is not wearing any camouflage. That gives the viewers an unobstructed view of the luxury SUV. At the rear, the 2024 Skoda Kodiaq gets split-LED taillamps with a vivid ‘Skoda’ lettering across the boot, a high-mounted stop lamp, a rugged bumper with reflector lights on the extreme edges and a blacked-out rear windshield from the sides.
Looking closely reveals the side section as well. The 2024 Skoda Kodiaq gets black side pillars and a unique C-pillar section. In addition, the wheel arches are chunky with black cladding. The large and elegant alloy wheels fill in the wheel arches rather neatly. In this video clip, the front section is not visible. But the standard international model bears the typical Skoda design with a hexagonal butterfly grille, split-LED headlamps and a sporty bumper. The top interior amenities include:
- A 10- or 13-inch Freestanding Touchscreen Infotainment Display
- A 10-inch Digital Instrument Cluster
- An optional Head-up Display
- Three Physical Dials on the Centre Console with 32 mm Colour Displays
- A Panoramic Sunroof
- 340-litre Boot Space with All Three Rows Up
- 910-litre Boot Space with Third Row Folded
- Automatic Climate Control
2024 Skoda Kodiaq – Specs and Price
This is where things get exciting. The international model is offered with multiple powertrain options. These include a 1.5-litre TSI PHEV, a 1.5-litre TSI mHEV, a 2.0-litre TSI and a 2.0-litre TDI engine. However, all these engines are paired with a quick-shifting 7-speed DSG transmission. Apart from that, the SUV can be used in a 2WD or a 4WD configuration. I believe we won’t have as many choices. In fact, there might just be a single engine-transmission combination for our market. The current model has a retail price of Rs 39.99 lakh, ex-showroom. I expect this new-gen avatar to bear a significant premium perhaps taking the price tag over Rs 50 lakh, ex-showroom.
Engine | Power | Torque |
1.5L TSI PHEV (4×2) | 204 hp | 350 Nm |
1.5L TSI mHEV (4×2) | 150 hp | 250 Nm |
2.0L TSI (4×4) | 204 hp | 320 Nm |
2.0L TDI (4×2) | 150 hp | 360 Nm |
2.0L TDI (4×4) | 193 hp | 400 Nm |
Expected Price | > Rs 50 lakh |
Our View
Having achieved decent success with its MQB A0 IN-based cars like the Kushaq and Slavia, the Czech car marque now wants to expand its footprint across varied segments in India. In fact, we will even see a Tata Nexon-rivalling compact SUV from Skoda soon. It has been caught testing on multiple occasions. Apart from that, I have compiled a post highlighting 9 upcoming new cars or updated versions of existing cars from Skoda for our market in the near future. Hence, these are exciting times for the Skoda loyalists.
