The 2024 Maruti Swift has commenced arriving at the dealerships in Japan. Note that the 4th generation Swift was showcased at the Japan Mobility Show a few months ago. That was the first glimpse of the successful hatchback. It will make its way to our shores in the coming months. However, there are a lot of questions surrounding which powertrain option we will get. The Japanese model will get the new Z Series 3-cylinder strong hybrid mill. We are not sure if that would power the Indian-spec model due to cost constraints. But there will be another Z Series engine replacing the existing K Series mill.

These images come from ctcperformance on Instagram. They capture the new Swift at showrooms in Japan. When it comes to the exterior design, the new model draws plenty of inspiration from its predecessor. While there are numerous subtle updates to the front, such as tweaks to the bonnet, grille, headlamp cluster, and bumper, the overall look remains quite similar. This isn’t necessarily a downside, considering the current model already has a sleek appearance. A notable change is the inclusion of a front camera and radar, suggesting the possibility of the next-gen Swift featuring a 360-degree camera and some level of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) functions. But this is the case only with the Japanese model. We don’t think it will be there on our Swift. Similarly, the side and rear sections mostly maintain the existing silhouette including the taillamp pattern and the bumper.

Interior and Features
Looking at the interior, the upcoming Swift has a familiar feel, reminiscent of the Baleno premium hatchback available in India. There are multiple layers on the dashboard with various patterns to make it appealing. The new Swift features a standalone touchscreen infotainment display, a fresh dashboard layout, updated HVAC controls, a flat-bottom steering wheel, a partly digital instrument cluster, an electronic parking brake, and three headrests at the rear, among other changes. To know which of these features will be included in the Indian model, we’ll have to wait.

Specs
Maruti Suzuki is making a shift from its well-established K Series engine to introduce the Z Series 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated engine. While official figures are not available, the hybrid version of this engine is anticipated to achieve an impressive mileage of 35 km/l. It remains uncertain whether the Indian version of the Swift will adopt this engine. Considering the high priority placed on fuel efficiency in India, the upcoming Swift seems to have a competitive advantage. Moreover, this new engine is expected to deliver power figures in a similar range, potentially with higher torque, promising an exciting and dynamic driving experience.
