The upcoming 2024 Maruti Dzire was spotted for the first time in India. Maintaining its position as the most coveted C-segment vehicle, the Dzire has sustained popularity in both private and commercial markets over an extended period. Notably, this sub-4-meter sedan has experienced greater demand compared to its hatchback counterpart. This emphasizes the crucial role of the entry-level sedan for its manufacturer. The fourth-generation Dzire will be based on the new Swift which was unveiled in Japan a few weeks ago. Now, the spy images of the Dzire being tested in India have surfaced. Let us take a look at the details of what to expect.

2024 Maruti Dzire – Expected Specs
The Dzire will share its powertrains with the new Swift. A significant shift is evident with the introduction of a new powertrain, departing from the familiar K Series engine commonly found in the Swift and other Maruti vehicles. The upcoming Z Series engine is available in various versions, and the one unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show is a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder hybrid engine, boasting an impressive mileage of approximately 30-35 km/l.
While the power output remains comparable to the current model, there is a noticeable increase in torque, ensuring an even more exhilarating low-end performance. Due to cost constraints, we do not anticipate this engine in the Indian-spec version. Instead, the expectation is to receive the new K-Series engine with mild hybrid technology with the same 1.2-litre 3-cylinder mill. Each cylinder will have a capacity between 350cc and 400cc for optimal volumetric efficiency.

Engine | 1.2-litre Z Series |
No. of Cylinders | 3 |

2024 Maruti Dzire – Exterior
The images showcase the rear profile of the new Dzire. The silhouette is not too different from the current version. The taillamps are positioned on the extreme edges of the bootlid. The other aspects are hidden under a thick camouflage. Anticipated changes in the 2024 Maruti Dzire’s dimensions are not expected to be significant when compared to the current model. Car manufacturers typically refrain from extending vehicle lengths beyond 4 meters due to tax considerations, and the existing model already measures 3,995 mm in length.
Furthermore, the exterior design showcased in the new Swift at the Japan Mobility Show exhibits slight variations from the current model, and we project these same modifications to be adopted in the Dzire. These alterations encompass a revised headlamp design, a new bumper, an updated set of alloy wheels, a redesigned rear bumper, and a taillamp unit. While the overall silhouette will remain consistent, there will be a few adjustments to the exterior elements.
Dimensions (in mm) | Maruti Dzire (current-model) |
Length | 3,995 |
Width | 1,735 |
Height | 1,515 |
Wheelbase | 2,450 |

Interior and Features
Another aspect where the new Dzire will mark a significant departure from the existing model is the cabin. Again, we expect it to take inspiration from the new Swift. In fact, there might also be some similarities to the Baleno premium hatchback. The Dzire is likely to embrace a lighter colour palette to impart a more premium ambience, deviating from the Swift’s sporty all-black interior. A potential beige-black scheme is considered for the Dzire, aiming for a more sophisticated appearance.
The anticipated equipment levels are expected to be comparable, with notable highlights including a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a digital driver display. In alignment with market trends, both the India-spec Swift and the new Dzire may offer features such as an electric sunroof, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, and wireless charging. However, official confirmation of the features for the India-spec vehicles is still pending.

Maruti Swift Before Dzire
Traditionally, the Dzire has always preceded the Swift in India. The current iteration Dzire was launched in India back in 2017. The Swift followed in 2018. However, both these have not received any major updates since then. Therefore, the facelift or the next-generation update is long overdue. But by looking at the new Swift in Japan, we think that this time around, we might be able to experience the Swift before the Dzire in our market. Also, with the kind of rigorous testing going on of these two cars, the launch might not be too far away. We could have the Swift first, rapidly followed by the Dzire soon. The existing prices of the Dzire range from Rs 6.51 lakh and Rs 9.39 lakh, ex-showroom. The new-gen model will bear a premium over these.

Author’s Note
Maruti Suzuki Dzire is the most successful products in India’s automotive history. Since its initial launch in 2008, it has consistently attracted new buyers, amassing over 25 lakh sales. A major contributor to its success lies in its widespread appeal to both private individuals and commercial fleet operators. This is attributed to factors such as low running costs, high mileage, various powertrain options, and the reliability offered by Maruti Suzuki’s extensive service and dealership network. Moving forward, the introduction of a new engine signals a new chapter in the history of the Dzire in India. The question remains whether the 2024 Maruti Dzire will maintain its ability to captivate interest and appeal as its predecessors did.
