Maruti Jimny media drive took place recently and the first real-world mileage test results are out as well.
Here is the first real-world mileage test of the Maruti Jimny off-roading SUV. Jimny is a lightweight SUV that has established a name for itself in the international markets for decades now. However, all those versions were strictly 3-door. The one about to launch in India on June 7 will be the 5-door version. Maruti understands the mindset of the Indian customers. We look for the most practical and value-for-money car which is why the 5-door version made the global debut just for our market. While you could watch our full drive review on our YouTube channel, let us take a look at the kind of mileage you could expect.

Maruti Jimny Mileage Test
As is the tradition will all mileage tests, the vlogger fills the tank until the first auto-cut. Then he takes it for a long drive. He mentions that he is driving from Dehradun toward Delhi. The highway consists of a mix of bumper-to-bumper traffic and highway driving conditions. He drove the SUV solely in 2WD configuration since that is how most users will use it too. Also, when you are going on a hardcore off-roading adventure, mileage is anyway not at the top of your priority list.

After completing the journey, the vlogger brings it back to the fuelling station and gets it filled until the first auto-cut. In total, he drove the SUV for 111 km with mixed road and traffic conditions. The thing to note here is that it was driven in a 2WD configuration alone. After doing the necessary calculations, the mileage that he was able to get out of this Jimny was a decent 15.8 km/l. That is close to the 16.94 km/l that the company claims in the manual version. He was able to reach speeds of around 85 km/h on highways.

What We Think
Being a lightweight off-roading SUV from Maruti, expecting a mileage of around 14 km/l for daily commute is rather impressive. For comparison, the petrol variant of the Mahindra Thar is only able to offer around 9 km/l which is concerning. Hence, getting a mileage of 15.8 km/l in this video is a positive sign. Most buyers will keep a keen eye on that number and it could be the deciding factor in favour of the Jimny in our market. The upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door has surely got its work cut out.
