Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch the crossover, Fronx in India. In this article, let’s see how it compares to the Baleno.
The 2023 Maruti Fronx is the latest offering from the Indo-Japanese brand. It is based on the Heartect platform, like the premium hatchback Baleno. Both cars come with the same 1.2-liter K-Series petrol engine and manual transmission, as well as AMT options. A new YouTube video by Anubhav Chauhan compares the two Maruti Suzuki siblings. Let’s what differentiates the Fronx from its donor sibling.

Maruti Fronx Looks Bolder Than Baleno
As you can see in the above video, both cars feature a distinctive exterior style. The new Fronx features a coupe-crossover look. On the other hand, the Baleno is a premium hatchback. It is visibly smaller than the Fronx. However, the Baleno gets a bigger 318 liters of boot space compared to the 308 liters of boot space on Fronx. While both cars come with 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, the design is quite different. Both cars lack the option of a sunroof.

On the front, the 2023 Maruti Suzuki Fronx sports a large grille, split headlight design, and LED headlamps. The LED DRLs/ turn indicators are housed on top. The company has also added 360-degree reverse cameras. The Baleno has a sleeker front grille, LED fog lamps, and a set of LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs. On the back, both vehicles come with similar rear-view mirrors with cameras. Unlike Baleno, the Fronx does not get chrome handles. It comes with body-colored door handles. Overall, though, it looks bolder. Much of this is due to the stance and the Grand Vitara-like front-end.

Fronx Even Gets 1.0-litre Turbo Petrol Option
While both cars have similar engine and transmission options, the top-end Fronx variants (Delta+ variant onwards) get a 1.0-liter Boosterjet turbo petrol engine. On the inside, the 2023 Maruti Suzuki Fronx and Baleno have similar features. These include a wireless car charger, faux leather, an automatic climate control system, steering-mounted controls, and six airbags. Both cars come with a 9.0-inch free-floating SmartPlay infotainment system. Connectivity options like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Which One Should You Buy?
Prices of the Maruti Fronx are yet to be revealed. However, the crossover can be safely expected to command a premium over the hatchback sibling. Like the Baleno, the Sigma and Alpha variants of the Fronx have a 1.2-litre K-Series engine. They even have similar features. So, one can choose solely based on the style between these two. Those who prefer SUV ingredients in their hatchback can spend more and pick up the Fronx. However, things get interesting if you look at the higher variants. The Delta+, Zeta, and Alpha trims of the Fronx come with a 1.0-liter Boosterjet motor. Transmission options here include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic with steering-mounted paddle shifters. The features stay similar to the hatchback, but the performance has a world of difference. Hence, those looking for a stronger performance without a significant compromise in the fuel economy should select the Fronx over the Baleno.
