The next-gen Verna is due in our market and it being spotted testing is exciting news for the mid-size sedan segment.
The 2023 Hyundai Verna has been spied testing on Indian roads. This indicates that the launch might not be that far away. The mid-size sedan segment has suffered due to the relentless onslaught from the SUVs in terms of monthly sales. People inherently prefer SUVs owing to their high ground clearance and imposing road presence. As a result, the sales of sedans have declined in the last few years. But products like the Verna, Skoda Slavia, VW Virtus and Honda City have certainly kept the interest going.

2023 Hyundai Verna Spied
The image has been uploaded by car.spyshots on Instagram. The sedan is completely wrapped in camouflage but the overall length of the vehicle seems longer than the current model. This is also mentioned in the caption of the image. It could be due to the rivals like the VW Virtus and Skoda Slavia which are the latest entrants into the segment and have huge dimensions. The tail section of the new Verna could feature the split-LED taillamps as partly visible in the image. The front fascia might well be inspired by the new Elantra in the international market with elements like the massive Parametric grille that we recently saw on the Tucson.

Apart from that, the side pillars look black and the alloy wheels are also seen on this test mule. However, it could be the mid-trim model because the alloys look rather basic. Nothing else can be inferred from the visuals. But we know from experience that Hyundai will leave no stone unturned to equip the 2023 Verna with the latest tech and comfort features. Also, the cabin will most likely be upmarket and the connectivity features will be aplenty.

Specs
While there has been no official announcement from Hyundai, the powertrains options will most likely continue as they are in the existing model. This means that the 2023 Hyundai Verna could come with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine making 115 PS and 144 Nm, a 1.5-litre diesel engine making 115 PS and 250 Nm and a powerful 1.0-litre direct-injection turbo petrol making 120 PS and 171 Nm. The naturally aspirated petrol engine comes with either a 6-speed manual or CVT, the 1.5-litre diesel comes mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic and the 1.0-litre turbo petrol comes with a sole 7-speed DCT transmission. It would be interesting to see if Hyundai decides to electrify it with a hybrid option.
