2023 Hyundai Verna to be More Powerful than Honda City and Skoda Slavia 1.5
As per recent reports, Hyundai Verna will divide the production volumes into its two manufacturing plants in Irungattukottai and Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu in India. A major chunk of these units will be exported to the Middle East, Latin America, and other global markets. The company plans to make India a major export hub. Currently, Hyundai produces 40,000 units of the Verna every year and sells around 1603 units per month. Recently, the company stopped the production of the mid-size sedan at its St Petersburg plant in Russia due to the shortage in components.
The upcoming Verna has been in development for a while. Several test mules of the car have also been spotted. It is expected to be powered by a 1.5 TGDI turbo petrol engine that will offer 160 PS of peak power and 260–265 Nm of peak torque. It is not clear if it will be paired with a manual or a DCT transmission. However, the high output will make the new-gen Verna the most powerful car in the segment. The 1.4-liter engine (seen in Creta, Seltos, Alcazar, etc) is unlikely to pass the new RDE regulations under Phase II of the BS6 transition. The new rules will come into effect before April 2023.
