A glimpse of 2022 Maruti Baleno provided by a teaser image reveals an uncanny resemblance with a rendering that emerged last year
Maruti Baleno was launched in 2015 and quickly became the country’s favourite premium hatchback. After receiving a mild facelift a couple of years ago, the small car is now set to receive a range of updates that should help it keep the competition as well as the naysayers at bay. The new model was teased recently and what caught our attention is that the teased vehicle looks a lot like a popular rendering that was created by an artist last year.

As hinted by heavily camouflaged test mules, the small car is set to receive a host of updates to its front and rear fascia that will not only refresh its visual appeal but will even help it look as contemporary as its more modern rivals (read: Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz). The leaked images of the vehicle along with the only pic of the new car rolling out of the production model has given us a glimpse of the visual updates the car has received. However, a teaser image from one of the dealerships shows a car with changes visualized in a rendering from an unknown source that got popular last year. Don’t get us wrong, we’re aware that the new car will have a revised grille, new headlights and a new bumper up front. However, they won’t look anything like what has been teased. You can refer to the image seen below for a quick comparison yourself.
As can be seen in the leaked pics below, the new car will get a much wider grille than shown in the alleged teaser pic while even the headlamps aren’t rectangular and simply an evolution of the one seen on the current model. The bumper is also a lot different and has fluiding styling than the one in the teaser image above. The side profile will stay unchanged but the rear-end would feature new taillights. Inside, the car will have a new dashboard with a large, free-standing touchscreen infotainment unit of 9-inch. It will provide wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The car will even offer HUD and a new steering wheel.

Safety
Most importantly, the 2022 Maruti Baleno will be a lot safer than the current model. The carmaker is believed to have made changes to the platform as well as the sheetmetal to make the car safer. Additionally, the car could even offer new safety features in the form of 6-airbags and ESP. The carmaker is said to be targeting a 4-star or a 5-star score in Global NCAP tests. The revised platform is expected to even make it to other upcoming Maruti Suzuki models. Engine options are likely to sta untouched but there is a murmur of the 1.5-litre K-series engine from Brezza making it to the top-spec Baleno as an option.
