New generation 2022 Maruti Baleno will feature an evolved design that should make it appear as modern as Hyundai i20
First launched in 2015, the Maruti Baleno is easily the most successful premium hatchback to have ever been sold in the country. Even though it continues to top the sales charts month after month, it has lost some of its shine due to questionable crash worthiness, lack of segment-best features and fast-ageing design. All this will, however, change with the advent of the 2022 Maruti Baleno. The new model was spied by one of our team members in Mumbai recently as it was prepping for an ad shoot. Just a day after, we have images of the new car from the production plant, where you can see its first batch ready for shipment to the dealerships.

So far, it has been pretty well established that the new Baleno would look fresh without having a revolutionary design. Instead, its aesthetics will be an evolved version of the current car’s design, which means the new model would look fresh while having a familiar look. This is something that we’ve already been seeing on the Maruti Swift. The new car will have a wider grille up front along with a more sophisticated pair of headlights. The rear-end will feature wrap-around taillamps. The latest sighting gives us a clear look at the new set of alloy wheels, rear door and the chrome trim on the rear quarter glass.
Earlier sightings have also revealed that the 2022 Maruti Baleno will feature a fresh cabin with a new dashboard that will hold a free-standing 9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit. Dubbed Smartplay Pro+, the new system will offer wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with Arkamys sound driver for high quality sound output. The new car will even offer wireless smartphone charger, coloured MID for instrument cluster and 6 airbags.

2022 Maruti Baleno Safety and Specs
Other than offering 6 airbags, the new hatchback will also offer a better crash worthiness. This will be made possible through usage of higher strength steel and a reinforced platform. It’s being said that Maruti Suzuki is targeting a 5-star score in Global NCAP. Details of the specs aren’t available at this moment but the current car’s 1.2-litre Dualjet Dual-VVT petrol engine could be carried over in a slightly different state of tune. Also, the CVT is likely to make way for an AMT to keep the selling price in check. Rumours abound that the top-spec trim could be even available with a 1.5-litre K-series motor from the Brezza but we await an official confirmation on all of the above.
