Available in a price range of Rs 6.35 lakh to Rs 9.49 lakh (ex-showroom), the 2022 Maruti Baleno brings in many new features, refreshed styling and AMT option
First launched in 2015, the Maruti Baleno is undoubtedly India’s most successful premium hatchback. It’s been bought by lakhs of people for its good looks, spacious interior, nice ride and reliable nature. Unfortunately, though, it has even received a lot of flak for its below par robustness and questionable crash worthiness. All that could finally come to an end with the introduction of the 2022 Maruti Baleno, a highly updated version that the carmaker claims is safer than before. But just to give you an idea of the robustness of the vehicle, a vlogger has tried to highlight what the car’s sheetmetal ‘feels’ like. Have a look –

Speaking of the earlier Baleno, well, it came under scanner for its light build and body panels that would often develop minor dings on application of some weight. The new model, though, seems to feature thicker sheetmetal. The vlogger says the weight of the bonnet seems to have increased at least by two times. He also says that the bumper feels pretty much the same and Maruti has maintained the fit and finish. However, the bonnet definitely feels sturdier as it is sure to not develop any dings if you try to apply weight on it. The vlogger applies weight on the door panels and fenders and everything feels solid. More importantly, he adds that the doors now shut with a thud. Finally, he repeats the application of weight on the roof and demonstrates that even this panel feels tougher.
Overall, the vlogger is satisfied with how the 2022 Maruti Baleno feels sturdier than before. Maruti Suzuki has claimed that the new car is safer than before but has so far not revealed any crash test results from Global NCAP. But what’s for sure is that the car has gained weight owing to the revisions in the sheetmetal. The new Baleno is 70 kg heavier than the pre-facelift model it has just replaced and this could be owing to the use of thicker sheetmetal. Apart from this, it has even received 6 airbags for the Zeta and Alpha variants. This makes it the only other car in the segment, after the third-gen Hyundai i20, to provide side airbags on high-end variants. Other highlights of the features list of the vehicle include a bigger SmartPlay Pro+ 9.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, wireless smartphone charger, HUD, 360-degree camera and more.

2022 Maruti Baleno is available in a price range of Rs 6.35-9.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Like before, it’s on sale in four trims – Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. Powering the refreshed hatchback is a 1.2-litre Dualjet Dual-VVT four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that belts out a maximum power of 90PS along with a peak torque of 113Nm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AGS (AMT) that has replaced the CVT of the previous version. While the fuel efficiency of the manual model has dropped a bit, the Baleno continues to be the most frugal car in the segment. And now it looks like it could be a safer option too!
