Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) is readying the next-gen Alto to cater to the entry-level car buyers in the country.
Maruti Suzuki is still betting big on the entry-level segment in India with the launch of the third-gen Alto slated for August 18. The largest carmaker in the country is continuing to strengthen its foundation by believing in the small hatchback amidst the growing trend of SUVs. But if there is anyone who understands the value and potential of small hatchbacks, it is Maruti Suzuki. That is why it will offer the public the new avatar of the Alto which could be crucial considering the Hyundai Santro and Datsun Redi-Go have now been discontinued.

Third-Gen Maruti Alto Launch
This image was uploaded by Ashu Automo on Instagram. In addition to this, there are other leaked images that also suggest that the dimensions of this Alto will be larger than the outgoing K10. This is expected because the hatchback will be based on Maruti’s Heartect platform which is modular and underpins a ton of models including the new Celerio. That could also be the reason why this image shares certain similarities in terms of exterior design.

The new Alto is expected to come with a different front fascia, the door panels remind us of the S-Presso, the tail section looks like it has been inspired by the Celerio with the water-drop-themed taillights, a slightly upright stance, and much more. On the inside, there might be the inclusion of grey materials including the dashboard and other modern features. We will just need to wait a little to know the exact details of the hatchback.

Specs
As far as the powertrain options go, there will most likely be the 1.0-litre petrol engine like on the Celerio. It will be mated to the 5-speed manual gearbox. We shall see if Maruti decides to offer a 5-speed AMT gearbox to the mix. Being an entry-level hatchback, the mileage figures are bound to be impressive which is a crucial factor in the segment. While the CNG option might not be available from the beginning, we might see it at a later stage. The prices of the new Alto could range between Rs 4 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, ex-showroom.
