Further building upon the speculation of a 5-star safety rating, Anand Mahindra’s recent tweet is a clear hint at the high safety rating of the new SUV. Jokingly, the top executive has remarked,”Rohit Shetty ji, is gaadi ko udaane ke liye aap ko ek nuclear bomb ki aavashyakata hogi…” This Tweet was made in response to a user who exclaimed how the new Scorpio would up the ante of the action scenes in Shetty’s films.
Our sources reveal that the sales training of the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio N will commence next month. Even the order book will be opened in the second-half of June. The ‘N’ here stands for ‘New Generation’ but it’s important to mention here that the current version won’t be replaced by the new model. Instead, the new-gen Scorpio will be sold in a higher segment, which is something that has already been confirmed in an official video that clearly mentions the new model being developed for the D-segment.

What this means is that the new Scorpio will be slotted between the current version and the XUV500 when it comes to the price positioning. Currently, the Scorpio retails in a price range of Rs 13.30 lakh to Rs 18.19 lakh. On the other hand, the Mahindra XUV700 is available in a price bracket of Rs 13.18 lakh to Rs 24.58 lakh. From this, it’s clear that there will be a definite price overlap between the XUV700 and the new Scorpio. The design of the new SUV was leaked recently. By now, it’s clear that the new version will be a size bigger than the current model. The front-end carries a bold look and the side-profile is slightly reminiscent of the Mahindra XUV500. The rear, however, will be a hit or miss among the audience due to the uncanny similarity with the WagonR due to the Volvo-inspired X-mas taillamps.

Specs
The exact specs of the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio N will be revealed only at the time of the official debut but it looks like the new SUV will share its engines and transmissions with the Thar. The entry-level diesel engine variant will offer 130 PS with a 2WD format but the higher variants could offer 150 PS with an optional 4WD. The petrol variant will be sold with a 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol engine that will produce 150 PS. In all likelihood, the petrol version will be available only in 2WD format. Transmission choices for both the engine variants will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic unit. As discussed above, the SUV is very likely to boast 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP.
