The side-facing rear seating generally does not favor the safety rating of a vehicle and Mahindra has experienced that with the Thar.

New Mahindra Scorpio N Rear Seats Leaked
The video has been posted on YouTube as Shorts. Going by the visuals, the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio N might get side-facing seats like on the existing Scorpio. However, this could cause a drop in the safety rating if Scorpio goes to the GNCAP crash test. A similar case transpired when the Thar was crash tested by GNCAP where it got a 4-star rating. However, Mahindra had to discontinue the side-facing version because that would compromise the safety rating. Hence, it is entirely possible that similar things happen with the Scorpio too.

On the other hand, there is no confirmation of the information relayed in the video. We have seen some other leaked images where the Scorpio had the 6-seat arrangement with captain seats in the second row. If Mahindra aims for comfort, that is the setting it would most likely opt for. However, to be sure about what the actual case is, we will have to wait for the launch.

The exact specs of the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio will be revealed only at the time of the official debut but it looks like the new SUV will share its engines and transmissions with the Thar. The entry-level diesel engine variant will offer 130 PS with a 2WD format but the higher variants could offer 150 PS with an optional 4WD. The petrol variant will be sold with a 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol engine that will produce 150 PS. In all likelihood, the petrol version will be available only in 2WD format. Transmission choices for both the engine variants will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic unit. We had also reported that the base petrol model of the 2022 Scorpio N could start from Rs 14.50 lakh, ex-showroom.
