2022 Mahindra Scorpio should launch in the coming months and will be a substantial update over the outgoing second-gen model
The next-generation Mahindra Scorpio is certainly taking its own sweet time coming. The SUV has already been spied testing on almost infinite occasions but in spite of the extensive test runs, it doesn’t look like the upcoming SUV would shed its camouflage any time soon. Well, the SUV has once again been spied but what makes the latest sighting quite interesting is that the pack of 3 2022 Mahindra Scorpio SUVs was seen parked on a Chennai road after one of the vehicles broke down. These images were shared with us by our reader Subramani Subbu. It may be noted here that Mahindra has regularly made it a point to subject its vehicles to extensive road testing before their launch and this incident goes on to clearly show the importance of such road tests as it helps carmakers iron out the niggles before the launch.

In spite of the heavy camouflage, one can have a a clear understanding of the overall design of the new SUV. You can even seen the diamond-cut alloy wheels that have been left exposed by the testers. The rear-end, like that of the current model, will have a hinged tailgate. The dimensions seem to have seen a substantial increase over the outgoing model but the upright stance for the silhouette has been carried over. Overall, though, being a much newer vehicle, the new model should benefit from a higher street presence.

Until now, the Mahindra Scorpio has been widely accepted as a tough SUV that offers more ruggedness, grunt and space than similarly priced models. Also, while the first generation of the SUV was marred by various issues, the later models were fine-tuned to offer more in terms of overall refinement. The SUV was even sold in a 4×4 variant that was later pulled off the market due to a very low demand. Similarly, even the petrol engine variant of the first generation Scorpio was discontinued due to the low sale. In the next version, though, the carmaker plans to offer both the above options due to their improved demand in present times.
