Toyota has taken the wraps of the 2021 Fortuner facelift which gives a tasteful design overhaul with more features on the inside and the 2.8L diesel engine now produces more oomph then before.
This is rather big news as this is the first facelift for the current-gen Toyota Fortuner and we really like how it has turned out to be. After a few spy shots, teaser and a long wait, Toyota has finally unveiled the Fortuner facelift in Thailand. It will still take some time to come to India and we are not expecting anytime before 2021, but it still gives us a heads up at what we could be expecting from the Fortuner facelift in India.
The face of the Toyota Fortuner has completely been revised with new sleeker headlamps and LED DRL elements. There’s a larger mesh-pattern grille and the bumper too has been complete redesigned with massive fog lamp housings and a redesigned skid plate. Overall, the face of the Fortuner now looks a lot more aggressive and sporty with angular cuts and creases over the rather bulky face of the pre-facelift Fortuner. The side profile remains largely unchanged but there are new 18-inch alloy wheels and at the rear, the tail lamps have been made much sleeker and the bumper is also more angular than before.
If this still does not suit your taste, then there’s a new top-spec ‘Legender’ model that takes things a notch higher. The face of the Legender model even looks completely different from the regular facelifted SUV and even more sporty. It exclusively gets a split grilled design with an even more sportier bumper. The dual LED projector headlamps have a unique pattern for the LED DRLs and there’s even sequential LED turn indicators on the bumpers. Further, all the chrome on the standard SUV has been replaced by a gloss-black trim and there are bespoke 20-inch alloy wheels as well. It also gets a dual tone paint scheme with gloss black elements on the rear bumper and boot lid.

On the inside, not much has changed in terms of the dashboard design. The infotainment system is however a larger unit at 8.0-inch screen size. Other additions include a mildly updated instrument cluster, 8-way power-adjustable driver and passenger seats, LED ambient lighting, 9-speaker JBL audio system, a 360-degree camera and wireless phone charging as well. The Legender model further gets a 9.0-inch infotainment screen, 7 airbags and also ‘Toyota Safe Sense’. This essentially is a safety feature package that adds collision prevention system, lane departure warning and radar-guided dynamic cruise control.

There’s a major update under the hood as well. The 2.8L diesel engine in the Fortuner now produces 204 hp and 500Nm of torque. That’s a significant bump in numbers from the 177 hp and 450Nm of peak torque that was produced by this same 2.8L diesel engine in the pre-facelift Fortuner. In India, we expect Toyota to continue with the 2.7L petrol engine and the updated 2.8L diesel engine when the Fortuner facelift arrives here. Transmission options will continue to be a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox. The facelifted SUV is only expected to arrive sometime next year and when it comes, we also expect it to see a marginal hike in price.
