By now, it has become quite well known that Maruti Suzuki, the country’s largest-selling carmaker, is busy readying yet another facelift for its hot-selling premium hatchback, Baleno. The upcoming Maruti Baleno facelift will feature a handful of updates that should help it fend off increased heat from fresh rivals like the new Hyundai i20 and Tata Altroz. In a recent development, the upcoming model has been spotted parked alongside the current version.

The Maruti Baleno was previously updated in 2019, when it got a minor nip and tuck treatment inside and out. The upcoming facelift, however, will be more comprehensive and should help the fast-aging hatchback look fresher. While the test mules seen so far have been heavily camouflaged, it can be made out that the new model will feature a larger front grille, new headlamps, updated bumper and stylish new DRLs.

Even the rear-end will see an update with the advent of new taillamps and a bigger roof-mounted spoiler. The side profile could remain largely unchanged and as seen in one of the images, even the alloy wheels seem to have been carried over from the current model. That said, there is a strong chance that the front and rear fenders would be updated to accommodate the changes made to the front and the rear. The interior will get a new upholstery and a revised dashboard that will carry vertically mounted aircon vents. The steering wheel will come from the Swift while the current instrument console will be replaced with a fully digital unit. Even the current car’s 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit will make way for a bigger unit that will measure at least 8-inch. It will support wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The specifications will remain untouched, which means the Maruti Baleno will continue to sell with two 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol options. The less powerful of this is the K12M VVT unit that outputs 83PS and 113Nm, while the more powerful K12N engine produces 90PS and 115Nm. Both the motors come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission but the former is available with an optional CVT.
