It is not a secret that Mahindra has been preparing the updated next-gen 2021 Scorpio for launch this year. In fact, there might be a bit of delay because of the semi-conductor shortage that has gripped the entire automobile industry globally. Nevertheless, the launch might still take place in 2021 itself. The Scorpio has been one of the most popular budget 4×4 SUVs in the country for a long time now. That segment hasn’t necessarily seen any other product emerge all this while and the loyal customers have been waiting for the next-gen Scorpio eagerly. There have been a few spy shots earlier as well, telling us some things about the new Scorpio. This time around, however, an Instagram post has surfaced showcasing the ladder frame SUV in action in the sand somewhere in Rajasthan. This could be part of the extensive testing in varied terrains because that is what the Mahindra Scorpio is known for since its inception. Let us take a look at what the video shows together with what we expect the new Scorpio to come equipped with.
2021 Mahindra Scorpio – Expected Exteriors
While there isn’t much clarity in the video of how exactly the Scorpio might look, we know from the spy shots earlier that the front end of the Scorpio will be tall and aggressive. There has been a glimpse of DLRs in the sand and we expect the Scorpio to come with features like alloy wheels, all-four disc brakes, typical slated front grille, overall tall silhouette, sideways opening rear door, side-step to facilitate easier ingress, projector headlamp unit, sporty bumper with skid plates and fog lamp unit on the edges of the bumper. We know that this will continue to be a body-on-frame SUV like the previous generation Scorpio and be based on the same platform as the Mahindra Thar. The Scorpio might be offered in 6, 7 or 8-seat configurations since it is catered to the semi-urban market particularly. The priority will be on enhancing and maximizing the practicality aspect of the vehicle.

2021 Mahindra Scorpio- Expected Interiors and Features
There hasn’t been much talk about the interiors of the Scorpio. But we expect the Scorpio to come with the largest Touchscreen Display in the segment with all the connectivity features including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and Bluetooth and Car Tech Connectivity, completely redesigned interiors, Digital Instrument Cluster, Steering-mounted Controls and Voice Command. The overall interiors might be borrowed from the Marazzo. Also, there might be an off-roading kit available like a 4×4 drive system, terrain modes and rugged built quality.

2021 Mahindra Scorpio- Expected Engines, Prices and Rivals
The 2021 Mahindra Scorpio will share the engines with the Thar. That means it will likely get a 2.2-litre diesel engine making 132 hp and a 2.0-litre direct-injection turbo petrol (from the Mahindra’s own mStallion family), making a decent 152 hp. Like the Thar, the Scorpio will likely come with 6-speed manual or automatic transmission options for both engines. Not to mention, the 4×4 setup will also be available with some variants like before. This being a body-on-frame SUV, might not have any direct rivals but there will be rivals according to the price point. We expect the all-new Scorpio to range between Rs 13 lakh and Rs 18 lakh, ex-showroom making it compete against the likes of MG Hector Plus, Tata Safari, upcoming Hyundai Alcazar and the likes. We hope that the issues with the semi-conductor shortage are resolved soon so that we can actually see the new Scorpio in flesh soon.
