Scorpio has been the original ladder-on-frame SUV that was home-grown. It was a tough vehicle built to take on load and beating. Back when it was launched in 2002, it gained popularity as the tall and muscular SUV that was very common in off-roading and semi-urban environments. Then with subsequent updates, it added more practicality and features to make it an everyday-usage car. But it has never been completely upgraded. Finally, Mahindra has decided to launch the new generation 2021 Scorpio in mid-2021. There have been a lot of spy shots and it has been seen testing multiple times. Let us look at what to expect in-depth!

2021 Mahindra Scorpio – Exterior
Although the test mule is heavily camouflaged, the muscular body with Mahindra’s latest design language is clearly visible. It does maintain the tall-boy stance and the typical Mahindra grille is also visible in the spy shots. The chunky wheel arches and a curve atop the rear wheel arch are very noticeable. The third-row quarter glass still is not a roll-down window. The rear door is the side-bolted version like before to maintain that SUVish element. It will open sideways like on the EcoSport.
The SUV will be brand new from the ground up. The body panels are completely new as well. Apart from completely new exteriors, the Scorpio will be engineered on the platform, on which the latest Thar is built. Scorpio will be unique in that it will be the only SUV in its segment with a ladder-on-frame architecture. This will give it excellent off-roading capabilities. With a 4×4 system, it could be taken on any terrain. This offers the buyers tremendous practicality and flexibility.

Although not much has been revealed about the interior of the new 2021 Scorpio, it is expected to get an 8-inch Digital Infotainment System with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The interiors could be borrowed from XUV300, Thar and Marazzo. A 4×4 system, Digital Instrument Cluster, Steering-mounted Controls and Voice Command are expected. A 7-seater layout may be available this time around in comparison to the side-facing rear seating arrangement.
The 2021 Mahindra Scorpio will share the engines with the Thar. That means it will likely get a 2.2-litre diesel engine making 132 hp and a 2.0-litre turbo petrol, making a decent 152 hp. Like the Thar, the Scorpio will likely come with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission options for both engines. Not to mention, the 4×4 setup will also be available with some variants like before.

Mahindra will start taking bookings for the new 2021 Scorpio somewhere around Q2 2021 and till mid-2021, the deliveries will begin.
2021 Mahindra Scorpio- Expected Price and Competition
Mahindra will most likely price the new 2021 Scorpio between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 16 lakh, ex-showroom. This will be a sweet spot to challenge the success of both compact SUV and mid-size SUV segment. That means, the rivals-list of the Scorpio will be extensive, starting from, Nexon, Venue, Sonet all the way to Creta, Seltos, Hector and Harrier. With a body-on-frame chassis, however, it could lure in customers wanting a proper SUV with off-roading capabilities.
