As per the reports, the new-gen Mahindra XUV500 will get a completely new engine and the diesel engine is expected to churn a whopping 185 bhp.
It looks like the year 2020 is for Mahindra as most of their cars will either receive a facelift or a completely new generation. And so is the case with upcoming Mahindra XUV500 which will be showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo.
Now the 2020 Mahindra XUV500 has been recently spotted on the Indian roads for the first time and we can tell that the changes are noticeable. For starters, the front fascia is being sported by test headlamps, indicators and large grille.
The spy shot caught also reveals the rear design with refreshed tailgate along with tweaked taillights design. The roof rails are also new. Also, the SUV projected a sloping roofline which is not seen on the current generation.

It was caught riding on steel wheels but we expect Mahindra to provide new alloy wheel design along with the upsize. It is only the window lines which seem to be similar to the ongoing model.
The interior shots are not clear but Motoroctane managed to get a slip of the new steering wheel. The upcoming car is also expected to get a redesigned dashboard, premium upholstery, larger touchscreen infotainment system among others.
Mechanically, the XUV500 will come with a BS6 compliant diesel and petrol engine. There are reports that there will be a new 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine which will replace the 2.2L mHawk unit. It is so because the latter is not as fruitful to be upgraded to BS6.

The new engine is expected to churn out as much as 185 bhp from the current 155 bhp. We expect a significant increase in torque too with the current being limited to 360 Nm. Reports also suggest that the new 2.0-litre diesel engine is 80 kg lighter than the 2.2-litre mHawk.
Once the BS-VI engine comes, the prices for the Mahindra XUV500 will be premium than it is for selling now. Mahindra XUV500 competes with the likes of Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass, Hyundai Creta, MG Hector and Kia Seltos. The prices for the SUV starts at Rs 12.38 lakh for the base trim and the top model fetches for around Rs 19.78 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
