The new Thar sits on a ladder-on-frame platform which provides the car with a robust structure and gets new interior updates.
It is just a few months for the 2020 Auto Expo before the new-gen Mahindra Thar kicks in. The car, in particular, will sit on a new platform and will be more rugged than the current generation. In a bid to make way for the new Thar, Mahindra launched ‘signature edition’ of the SUV, limited to just 700 units.
2020 Mahindra Thar will be longer, wider and will pack all the modern equipment and enhanced safety features. Since several spy shots have been surfacing on the internet that how the upcoming SUV will look like, we show you a rendered image that how the production-spec model may look like.
For starters, the rear profile will see a spare wheel bolted onto the side-hinged door, restyled bumpers and the availability of LED taillights. The front gets the signature 7-slot grille, turn indicators mounted on front fenders, wide and flat bonnet. The SUV also sports hardtop and round halogen headlamps.

Since the current generation lacked even the basic safety features, the upcoming SUV will get Antilock braking system, Electronic Brake-force distribution, Rear parking sensors, Dual front airbags, high speed alert monitoring system and more. The 2020 Mahindra Thar sits on a new body-on-frame chassis which provides it a robust structure.
The upcoming Mahindra Thar will use a 2.0-litre BS6 engine as opposed to the 2.5-litre CRDe engine currently. It will produce 140 bhp and torque figures will be over 300 Nm. Transmission option will include a 6-speed manual gearbox and an automatic too. The latter is no in the cars so. The Borwarner 4WD system and the differential locking will be carried over in the new Thar as well. However, Mahindra might improve its on-road performance, which is much needed.

We expect the prices of upcoming Mahindra Thar to be a little upwards then Rs 10 lakh mark because of all the modifications the brand is offering. Currently, the Thar competes with the Force Gurka which is also a serious off-roader vehicle. The Thar also competes with the Isuzu V-Cross when it comes to the off-road capabilities.
