2020 Hyundai Verna is going to get the 1.0 Litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine. The upgraded sedan will be launched this month.
Hyundai is going to launch the new generation Creta on 17th March, next week. Following that, we will get the new 2020 Hyundai Verna this month itself. The upgraded sedan is a major facelift with new engines, cosmetic upgrades and new features too.
Like recently launched Hyundai cars, even the Verna will get three engines to choose from. First one will be the 1.5 Litre petrol engine, which produces 115 PS. The second will be the 1.5 Litre diesel engine, which produces 115 PS and 250 Nm of peak torque. Both the engines come from Seltos and will also come on the new Creta.
The third and most exciting engine on offer will be the 1.0 Litre turbo-petrol three-cylinder engine from Venue. We were expecting the bigger 1.4 Litre T-GDI that will come on Creta. However, despite having a smaller engine, it will still be the most powerful in its class.

As seen, the power figures of Verna are the highest when compared with rivals. The next in line is the BS6 City, which produces 118 PS. The Rapid turbo petrol is yet to be launched, but it will produce 115 PS and 200 Nm of peak torque. In terms of torque, Rapid will be first followed by BS6 Vento.
Probably seeing the competitors, Hyundai would have chosen the Verna with the smaller engine. The 1.4 Litre TGDI turbo petrol produces 143 PS and 243 Nm of peak torque. That would actually put it at par with Corolla Altis, Civic and Elantra.
Mostly, the new Verna with the turbo petrol engine will come mated to a 7-speed DCT and a 6-speed MT. The petrol engine will get the options of a 6-speed MT and CVT. The diesel engine should come mated to a 6-speed MT and 6-speed torque converter AT.
