Although Hyundai had launched the BS6 Verna facelift earlier last month, the company has now revealed the fuel efficiency figures of the new Verna and its more than the BS4-spec car.
Hyundai launched the 2020 Verna facelift in India last month. At the time of its launch, Hyundai had revealed all details and specifications of the car except for its fuel economy. Now, Hyundai has finally revealed the fuel efficiency figures of the 2020 Verna facelift across all its engine line-up. Hyundai offers the 2020 Verna facelift in five variants in India – S, S+, SX, SX(O) and SX(O) Turbo. It is also the first fully connected car in its segment.
But before we tell you about the fuel efficiency figures, let’s give you a quick recap of the engine/gearbox options available on the Hyundai Verna. Firstly, there’s a 1.5L, naturally aspirated, four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 113bhp and 145Nm of torque. This engine comes mated 6-speed manual or a 6-speed CVT gearbox. There’s also a 1.5L, four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 113bhp and 250Nm of torque. The diesel engine comes paired to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox.
Lastly, the new Verna has another huge talking point about it and that would be the new 1.0L, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. This engine 118bhp and 172Nm of peak torque and it solely comes mated to a 7-speed DCT gearbox. This new turbo-petrol engine on the Verna with the DCT gearbox with paddle shifters really spices things up and makes it that much more involving to drive. In typical turbocharged engine fashion, there’s a fair bit of lag under 2,000 rpm but after the turbos kick in, the mid-range is very punchy all the way to the top-end. And now, the fuel efficiency :
2020 Hyundai Verna Powertrain Options | Fuel Efficiency |
1.5L NA Petrol MT | 17.7 kmpl |
1.5L NA Petrol CVT | 18.45 kmpl |
1.0L Turbo-Petrol DCT | 19.2 kmpl |
1.5L Diesel MT | 25 kmpl |
1.5L Diesel AT | 21.3 kmpl |

As you can already see from the table, it is the 1.0L turbo-petrol engine that has the best fuel efficiency among the petrol powertrains with 19.2 kmpl. The 1.5L, naturally aspirated petrol engine with manual transmission returns a mileage of 17.7 kmpl while the automatic transmission returns a little better mileage of 18.45 kmpl. Meanwhile, the manual diesel variant of the Verna has the highest mileage figure overall of 25 kmpl and if fuel efficiency is your only concern, then this is the variant for you. The diesel automatic gives a mileage of 21.3 kmpl.

As a matter of fact, Hyundai has improved on the fuel efficiency of the 2020 Verna from the pre-facelift BS4 spec car. Mileage on the petrol CVT variant has improved significantly as the BS4 spec car returned 15.9 kmpl. All the other variants see a marginal improvement in the mileage as well. The 2020 Hyundai Verna is also one of the best equipped sedans in its class and a great value-for-money offering like most Hyundais.
