The 2019 BMW S1000RR is madder, sexier and faster than ever before. It gets a host of mechanical, electronic and design updates to make for a sensational motorcycle.
BMW just launched the 2019 S1000RR in India yesterday. The 2019 version of the BMW S1000RR gets a host of updates which includes a complete redesign of the motorcycle, mechanical updates and better electronic aids as well. Here’s everything you need to know about BMW’s latest track monster:
Designed to make you weak on your knees
The new bike has been completely redesigned from its last iteration. Its much more compact and sharper than the previous bulbous and more rounded design. It looks stunning in the BMW racing livery and its really in the details where the beauty of this machine lies. When viewed from the rear quarter, the sight of the engine half covered and other mechanical bits along with the frame gives it an extremely menacing look.
Talking about menacing, the face is no less. Yes, the iconic asymmetrical headlamps are gone and in place comes a more conventional design but it still looks mean, almost like eyes of the motorcycle. The Y-shaped panel gap in the front cowl has still been retained though. Lightweight has been a key in the designing of the bike, so much so that the turn indicators have been put on the mirrors so they can be removed on track days.
Comprehensive Engine Updates
The 2019 BMW S1000RR is powered by a revised 999cc, in-line four-cylinder motor which now makes 207PS – an increment by 8PS – of power at 8,500rpm and 113Nm of torque at 11,000rpm. The motor also revs higher by 500rpm. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a bi-directional quickshifter.
BMW has now equipped the motorcycle with its ‘ShiftCam Technology,’ which is essentially Variable Valve Timing (VVT). This helps the bike offer better low-end torque while still retaining a sensational top end performance. The engineers at BMW have also revised the internals to make the engine more compact and 4kg lighter than before.
Electronic Aids to the rescue
The 2019 BMW S1000RR is a mad motorcycle and to keep all the power grounded and the rider in control, the motorcycle has a bunch of electronic aids. This includes a six-axis IMU (inertial measurement unit), cornering ABS, Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), hill start assist and engine brake control. That’s not all, BMW also offers an optional ’Pro mode’ which adds launch control, wheelie control, pit-lane limiter, slide control and additional riding modes (Race Pro 1-3) to the mix.
There are also four riding modes on offer – Rain, Road, Dynamic and Race. You also get a 6.5-inch TFT display through which you can access the various functions in the bike. Like the last-gen motorcycle, the 2019 version also comes with all-LED lighting.

Weight Reduction taken quite seriously
The 2019 BMW S1000RR has taken weight reduction very seriously indeed. Not only has the engine been made lighter by 4 kgs, but the chassis has been redesigned as well and there’s also a WSBK-inspired aluminium swingarm. The bike now weighs 197 kgs, 11 kgs lighter than the previous generation.
BMW how ever did not stop just there. You can further bring the weight down to 193.5 kgs, if you opt for the top-of-the-line ‘Pro M Sport’ variant. It gets lightweight carbon wheels, M lightweight battery, M Chassis kit with ride height adjustment and a pivot for the swingarm.
