The 2018 Toyota Yaris Cross is a hatchback with muscular design and offers additional safety features.
Toyota showcased the 2018 Toyota Yaris Cross in Japan last week. The Yaris Cross is a hatchback with off-road friendly plastic cladding all around. Toyota implements the Yaris brand name for various body types across various markets. In India, the Yaris is a sedan that competes with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City and Hyundai Verna. In certain markets like Japan, the Yaris is a premium hatchback. Toyota showcased the Yaris sedan in India at the 2018 Auto Expo with the launch slated for the upcoming months. We expect the upcoming c-segment sedan to be competitively priced against its rivals, undercutting most.
2018 Toyota Yaris Cross – Design
The 2018 Toyota Yaris Cross is ready to roll out in the international market. Toyota’s move to convert the hatchback to more SUV like appearance is evident. Flared wheel arches with extra plastic cladding, front bumper sill protector, side body cladding, rear bumper protector and roof rails mark the major changes in the Yaris Cross. Another major design element exclusive to the Cross is the lack of chrome elements all around the body. In the Yaris sedan to be launched in India, we saw an abundance of chrome all around the sedan but the Yaris Cross carries only one part of chrome that too on the boot.
2018 Toyota Yaris Cross – Drivetrain
The 2018 Toyota Yaris Cross is powered by a 1.5-litre normally aspirated four-cylinder engine. The engine is good for 107 HP of max power and 140 Nm of max torque. The engine comes mated to either a five-speed manual gearbox or one can opt for a CVT transmission on the higher variants. India bound Yaris sedan will be powered by the same engine upon launch.
2018 Toyota Yaris Cross – Safety Features
The 2018 Toyota Yaris Cross offers additional safety features to its customers as compared to the normal hatchback. The standard safety feature includes ABS with EBD, ESP, hill start assists and all-wheel disc brakes. The additional safety features on offer include multiple airbags for the driver, passenger, curtain as well as driver knee airbag.
2018 Toyota Yaris Cross – Features on Board
The 2018 Toyota Yaris Cross offers its customers a full host of features like automatic climate control, HD infotainment system, leather upholstery seats, two additional speakers, sporty colour contrast stitching on the gear knob and steering wheel.
2018 Toyota Yaris Cross – Will it launch in India?
Toyota is known for exercising highly detailed market research before the company decides to launch a product. With the Yaris sedan still a couple of months away and no plans on launching the hatchback version, we do not expect the Yaris Cross to launch in India anytime soon.
