Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL), the country’s largest selling car company, has been on a roll! All of its recent models, which include the new Baleno, Ciaz, and more recently, the new Dzire, have been shattering sales records ever since they stepped into the market. The company will now launch the new Maruti Swift at Delhi Auto Expo 2018. However, Maruti isn’t the one to rest on its laurels and is busy planning another all-new car to launch after the new Swift. We are talking about the new 2018 Maruti Ertiga. A test mule of the new-generation Ertiga MPV was spied recently and you find out all the spy images on this page. The new-gen model will be lighter, safer and will offer more mileage and features.

The 2018 Maruti Ertiga new-generation model has been internally codenamed as the YHA. It will be underpinned by the company’s new HEARTECT platform and will offer more space and features. Also, the lightweight platform should ensure higher performance and mileage. The new MPV will share in plenty with the latest generation Swift. It is likely to source many interior panels, like the dashboard, door pads, and instrument console, from the hatchback sibling. Even the specifications could be largely similar.
It is noteworthy that the new-gen Swift is as much as 120 KGs lighter than the earlier model. Keeping that in mind, we can expect even the new next Ertiga to have a similar weight reduction over the current model. Also, the new platform should make the MPV safer and even sportier to drive. This will be a result of usage of high-tensile steel in the modern platform. The Ertiga could also get the company’s long-overdue 1.5-litre Diesel engine. It’s very likely that the next-gen model will miss out on SHVS mini-hybrid technology.
As for the petrol variant, the current 1.4-litre K14B engine is likely to remain on offer. However, the company could even end up offering the powerful yet efficient 1.0 Boosterjet engine from the Maruti Baleno RS. While the launch of the new Ertiga is still at least a year away from us, we can expect to see a pre-production test mule at the Delhi Auto Expo 2018.

2018 Maruti Ertiga Launch Date
Maruti Suzuki is yet to reveal any sort of official detail on the new 2018 Maruti Ertiga launch date. However, our guess is that the new-gen of the popular MPV launch in a year’s time from now. Also, we expect to see a pre-production version of this car at the Delhi Auto Expo 2018.
At the moment, the Maruti Ertiga enjoys quite a free run of sorts. While the Honda Mobilio has been discontinued owing to dismal sales figures, the Mahindra Xylo isn’t a direct rival as it’s a relatively utilitarian product.
2018 Maruti Ertiga Price In India
Minimum Price | Rs 6.75 Lakh |
Maximum Price | Rs 11.00 Lakh |
Currently, the Ertiga is on sale in a price bracket of Rs 6.03 lakh to Rs 8.49 lakh. There are good chances that the 2018 model would have a higher price tag. However, the new car will be able to justify the increase in price through a more modern platform, more features and a more practical cabin. Currently, the Ertiga is available with two engine options – 1.4-litre petrol and 1.3L MJD Diesel with SHVS mini Hybrid technology. Prices of the next generation model are likely to start at roughly Rs 6.75 lakh and go all the way to Rs 11 lakh.
2018 Maruti Ertiga Specifications
Petrol | 1.4-litre K-series Petrol/1.0 Boosterjet/1.5-litre 4-cylinder Naturally Aspirated |
Diesel | 1.5-litre Turbocharged Diesel |
The new 2018 Maruti Ertiga will offer both petrol and Diesel engine options. The petrol engine on offer will be the same 1.4-litre K-series engine that is available currently. The Diesel engine, however, will be the much awaited 1.5-litre turbo motor that Suzuki has been developing. Currently, the Ertiga MPV offers the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre Multijet Diesel engine. Also, don’t be too surprised to see Maruti offering the powerful yet efficient 1.0 Boosterjet engine on select trims of the Ertiga 2018. This turbocharged petrol motor is available only with the Baleno RS at the moment.
We don’t think that even the next generation Ertiga would offer SHVS mild-hybrid technology. We say so as the introduction of GST has led hybrids to fall under the highest tax slab. This has in turn translated into a considerable increase in prices of all SHVS-equipped cars. Hence, Maruti is likely to give its next-gen MPV a pricing edge by not offering the SHVS tech. Also, a few media reports even suggest that the Ertiga 2018 could get the upcoming 1.5-litre Petrol engine that the facelifted versions of the Ciaz and the Ertiga are rumoured to get. Transmission options should include 5-speed Manual and AMT units for both Petrol and Diesel models.

2018 Maruti Ertiga Exterior
The current Ertiga MPV is based on what is basically an extended version of the current Swift’s platform. The next generation model will be based on the upcoming 2018 Swift’s lightweight HEARTEC platform. The new Swift is up to 120 KGs lighter than its predecessor. Similarly, even the new Ertiga will end up being far lighter than the current car. Also, the new platform is made up of a high percentage of high-tensile steel. it is expected that the new car would get a hexagonal front grille, sportier bumpers, sleek projector headlamps, and LED DRLs. The side profile will remain largely the same but could have a slightly larger DLO. The alloy wheels will be more stylish. The rear will most probably get a wraparound taillamps, sportier bumper and smaller windscreen.
2018 Maruti Ertiga Interior
Complementing the modern exterior will be an equally modern interior that will have a new design layout and more features. The quality of materials will be also better. Based on the new-generation Swift’s platform, the 2018 Ertiga will be wider and hence, more spacious. It will offer many more features and a richer upholstery. The dashboard and steering wheel will come from the new Dzire. Even the design of door pads will take inspiration from those of the compact sedan. Expect a full beige interior with faux wood inserts.
