Mahindra owned Ssangyong hasn’t tasted much success in India. The Rexton never could pull buyers away from the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, a fact that probably discouraged Mahindra from launching more SsangYong badged vehicles in India. So, instead of directly selling SsangYong products in India, Mahindra will now tweak these SUVs and launch them under their own badge with a new name. 2018 Mahindra SsangYong Rexton Launch in India

Mahindra is expected to bring the 2018 SsangYong Rexton based SUV to India by the end of 2017 or early 2018. Before that Mahindra is expected to launch the Tivoli based small SUV S201 (codename). The 2018 SsangYong Rexton made its debut at the 2017 Seoul Auto Show on March 29, 2017.

2018 Mahindra SsangYong Rexton India Specifications
Mahindra has been developing a new family of engines in collaboration with SsangYong. These new engines will power the upcoming Mahindra SUV in India. Expect the diesel variant of the 2018 Rexton aka Mahindra Y400 to get a 2.2 L Diesel good for around 181 BHP. The petrol variants could draw power from a turbocharged 2.0 L unit that puts out around 225 BHP. Transmission duties will be handled by either a 6-speed manual or a Mercedes-sourced 7-speed automatic gearbox. More details on the specifications of the upcoming Mahindra Ssangyong SUV will be available closer to its market launch towards the end of this year.
