2018 Mahindra S201 Launch Date
The Mahindra S201 compact SUV is expected to be showcased at the upcoming 2018 Auto Expo with the launch taking place during mid-2018. Upon launch, the Mahindra S201 will compete with the Hyundai Creta and Renault Captur amongst others. Prices are likely to start at roughly Rs 10 lakh.
2018 Mahindra S201 Specifications
Doing its duty under the hood of the Mahindra S201 SUV are a pair of petrol and diesel engine. The 1.2-litre direct injection turbocharged petrol engine will churn out 140 hp. The 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel unit will host an output of 125 bhp. The engines will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox initially. Expect the option of four-wheel drive and automatic transmission options filtering in at a later stage.
2018 Mahindra S201 Design
Mahindra’s subsidiary company Ssangyong derived Tivoli’s X100 platform underpins the upcoming S201 mini-SUV. Upon launch, Mahindra will offer two variants that will differ in proportions as well. The initial variant will offer under 4-meter length with seating space for 5 passengers. The second variant to offer elongated platform offering space to incorporate a third row of seating making the mini-SUV a 7-seater. The latter will be over 4-meters in length and will attract more taxes due to the extended length, therefore, costing considerably more than the 5 seater version.
The upcoming Mahindra S201 will be slotted above the Mahindra TUV 300 as a more sophisticated and premium vehicle. If other reports are to be believed, the S201 will differ in terms of appearance to align its design theme to that of other offerings from the automaker. Most of these changes will be restricted to the front with one of the major changes being a new slotted upper grille and a revised bumper. The rest of the car will remain exactly the same to the Ssangyong Tivoli. The interiors will be carried over exactly from the South Korean SUV. Since the Tivoli misses on the seven-seater variant, the interiors of the extended version of the S201 will have to be redone and we hope it looks as seamless as it would on the under 4-meter variant.
2018 Mahindra S201 Features
Mahindra could offer several dual-tone colour packages as optional to interested customers upon launch. This option will enable the buyers to customise their vehicles with the colour of the roof is in contrast to the body colour. A recent example can be derived from Maruti Suzuki that offers the same on the Vitara Brezza. Ssangyong Tivoli brochure broadly boasts the dual-tone colour scheme as it’s more visually appealing than the standard paint scheme.
