The upcoming Ford Figo Cross has been spied once again. This time around, the new model, which is likely to go on sale as the 2018 Ford Figo Freestyle, was spotted testing on the Ahmedabad-Vadodara expressway by a reader of Rushlane. Basically, there was a convoy of three test mules that was spotted testing.

The 2018 Ford Figo Freestyle is basically a pseudo-crossover based on the Figo hatchback. It gets a new grille, body cladding, roof rails, black-painted alloy wheels, many more chrome highlights and a few new colour options. The car’s front-end also gets some comprehensive styling updates. The front grille is narrower and sits lower. The headlamp design is also new. The body cladding is also new and starts at the lower lip of the front bumper and extends to the rear wheel arches. The new car rides on black-painted six-spoke alloy wheels that enhance the styling. The taillamps have been carried over from the regular model but have been given a smoke effect.

Even the interior gets some changes. The new Ford Figo Freestyle gets an Ecosport-like touchscreen SYNC3 infotainment unit. It also gets an updated instrument cluster along with a new design for the steering wheel. The upholstery is new and the seats get better bolstering for enhanced comfort and support. Once officially launched, the Figo Freestyle will compete with the likes of Volkswagen Polo Cross, Toyota Etios Cross, Hyundai i20 Active, and Fiat Avventura Urban Cross. The new model will aim to enhance the sales performance of Ford India in the B-segment.
2018 Ford Figo Freestyle Launch Date
Launch Date (expected) | April 2018 |
Ford India will unveil the new 2018 Freestyle to media on January 31. The official launch, however, seems to be some time away. It may be noted here that the company isn’t participating in the fast-approaching Auto Expo 2018. Hence, planning a media event just days before the motor show should get the new product enough attention from the media even without being present at the auto show. Our guess is that the official launch of the Freestyle would happen soon after the advent of the next financial year.
2018 Ford Figo Freestyle Price in India
Minimum | Rs 5.3 Lakh |
Maximum | Rs 8.6 Lakh |
Quite obviously, the new 2018 Ford Figo Freestyle version will command a significant price premium over the regular Figo. Prices of the regular Figo currently start at Rs 4.8 lakh. The top-end model costs Rs 7.7 lakh. The cross version could command a price premium of Rs 50,000-60,000. The increase in price will be justified thru a more rugged exterior, more features and the new petrol engine. While the 1.2-litre motor will be new, we expect the Figo Cross to get the remaining two engines – 1.5 Petrol, 1.5 Diesel – to make it to the Cross version without much change.
2018 Ford Figo Freestyle Specifications
Specs | Petrol | Diesel |

Max. Power | 82 BHP/110 BHP | 99 BHP |
Peak Torque | 115 Nm/146 Nm | 215 Nm |

Talking about the specs, the new 2018 Ford Figo Freestyle will get its juice from the company’s new 1.2-litre petrol engine from the Dragon series of motors. It may be noted here that the refreshed EcoSport’s new 1.5-litre three-pot petrol engine belongs to this range of modern three-cylinder petrol mills. The new 1.2-litre Dragon petrol engine delivers a maximum power of 95 bhp along with a peak torque of 115 Nm. The motor comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission. This petrol engine will also make its way to the regular Figo hatchback and the Aspire compact sedan. Three Freestyle will get the same Diesel engine as the current Figo. This 1.5-litre Diesel engine outputs 99 BHP and 215 Nm. It comes mated to a 5-speed Manual Transmission.
2018 Ford Figo Freestyle Mileage
1.2 Petrol | 21 KMPL |
1.5 Petrol | 18 KMPL |
1.5 Diesel | 25 KMPL |
The new 1.2-litre Petrol engine is likely to deliver around 21 KMPL. In comparison, the Figo’s current 1.2-litre engine offers a peak mileage of roughly 19 KMPL. Also, thanks to a really mediocre low-end grunt, the engine fails to deliver a very high mileage in real-world driving conditions. All this is likely to change with the advent of the new 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder Dragon series engine. The Diesel engine will be carried over from the Figo hatchback. It will offer a mileage of up to 25 kmpl.
