Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, the country’s largest selling carmaker, has launched the new 2017 Maruti Celerio facelift. Prices of the new Celerio 2017 start at Rs 4.15 lakh. The new model gets updated exterior and a host of new safety features. The launch of the facelift is now expected to be followed by the introduction of the Celerio X (Cross). While the Celerio X will take on the likes of Renault Kwid 1.0 and Datsun Redi Go 1.0, the facelift will aim to give a boost to the Celerio’s appeal. The Celerio, while not a dud seller, hasn’t been able to make a huge dent in the sales of competitors like the Tata Tiago and the Hyundai Grand i10. The 2017 model, however, should bring in many more new customers under Maruti’s umbrella.

The new 2017 Maruti Celerio facelift comes with many styling updates for its exterior and interior. While the basic design and dimensions remain the same, the subtle changes in the car’s styling give this hatchback a modern look. Most of the changes that the facelift brings can be found on the exterior. The car’s front-end gets a new grille, a new bumper and a set of new foglamp bezels. Together, these new bits give the car’s nose a really contemporary look. The side profile remains much the same. The rear-end also sees a handful of minor changes. These include a new garnish for the boot lid and a new bumper.

Even the interior will see some changes. The new high contrast interior with Black and fresher greige offers a premium look to the cabin. Complementing greige seat trims with new abstract pattern gives it a modern touch. Silver accents, fresh seats and door trim fabric design further enhance the premium-ness in the cabin. The updated Celerio meets pedestrian, offset and side impact regulations. The updated car comes with a standard driver-side airbag. It is also packed with driver side seat belt reminder, which is an important part of safety package. Passenger airbags and ABS are offered as an optional variant across all trims.
There won’t be any change in the specifications. Akin to the current model, even the facelift will offer Petrol and CNG variants. The petrol engine displaces 1.0-litre and outputs 67 BHP of maximum power and 90 Nm of peak torque. It produces a maximum power of 59 BHP for the CNG variant. Even the new 2017 Maruti Celerio facelift won’t offer a Diesel engine option. It may be noted here that the Celerio earlier came with an indigenously developed 793cc twin-cylinder diesel engine. It was later discontinued due to low demand. Even the facelift will offer a 5-speed manual and an AMT.
The Maruti Celerio made its India debut at the Delhi Auto Expo 2014. This tallboy-ish hatchback took place of the AStar in the company’s product portfolio. The Celerio went on to become the first-ever Maruti car to offer an Automated Manual Transmission. This car crossed the 1 lakh sales milestone in July 2015 and has garnered a considerably warm response from the market. However, fresher arrivals like the Tata Tiago have stolen away the limelight from this model. The upcoming facelift will help the hatchback project itself to be at least as fresh as any of its rivals.

The exterior of the Celerio gets many minor updates that come together to make the car look fresher and more attractive. Most of these changes have been made to the car’s front-end. The new grille is an all-black honeycomb affair that is devoid of the chrome slats seen on the current car’s grille. The bumpers look bolder and more rugged. Side profile is likely to remain almost the same. However, we do expect it to get a set of attractive alloy wheels. The rear-end gets an updated bumper and some chrome appliques.
